PM Update: More Favre chit-chat
Jeff Gordon

Because you can’t get enough Brett Favre stuff, here is some more reaction to his landing in New York City:

Shaun Powell, Newsday: “The man is 38, interception prone, coming to a 4-12 team that wasn’t his first choice, dealing with a totally new environment and if you think the drama surrounding him was thick this off-season, wait ’til next. Alright, we got that out of the way. Let’s now discuss the obvious. By getting Brett Favre, the Jets just got interesting. Not necessarily great. Not necessarily Super. All we know for sure in 2008 is the Jets won’t be relying on Chad Pennington to move them downfield, seven yards at a time, nor will they live and mostly die with the unpredictable Kellen Clemens. This is Brett Freaking Favre we’re talking, even if he’s no longer the Brett Favre you grew up with.”

Gene Wojciechowski, ESPN.com: “Drag a razor across this controversy’s beard and that’s what you’ll find under the stubble — distrust, too much scar tissue and the simple yet mind-boggling fact that Packers management thinks Favre isn’t good enough to win. If it thought otherwise, Favre wouldn’t be the quarterback of the New York Jets today.”

Alex Marvez, FoxSports.com: “Even though the New York Giants won Super Bowl XLII, the Jets should no longer be considered second fiddle to their cross-town rival. The Jets already had made significant improvements this offseason thanks to a nine-digit spending spree that netted such standouts as guard Alan Faneca, outside linebacker Calvin Pace and nose tackle Kris Jenkins. But such acquisitions didn’t guarantee New York could make a run at the New England Patriots for AFC East supremacy. Favre does.”

Rick Chandler, Deadspin: “If Madden NFL 09 is considered to be an accurate predictor of the upcoming NFL season, the Jets probably made a good move in picking up Brett Favre. Immediately after the story broke that Favre was dealt, EA Sports released a simulation from the upcoming Madden NFL 09 that suggested Favre would lead the Jets to an 11-4-1 record next season and eventually bow out to Cleveland in the AFC wild card. As for the Favre-less Packers, they would miss the post-season at 9-7 with Aaron Rodgers (or perhaps Chad Pennington) at the helm.”

Tom Curran, NBCSports.com: “The most prolific passer in NFL history is headed to New York and for that franchise, Sundays will never be the same. Sometimes we (and I absolutely include myself in this) get so caught up in the machinations of professional sports that we forget why we care in the first place. Because they are fun. Entertaining. And Brett Favre in a new conference, a new city that’s the polar opposite of Green Bay and Kiln, is going to be damn fun to watch.”
