PM: This just in — the Rams stink

As you might guess, the experts were unimpressed by the Rams’ debut.

Here is a sampling of the national opinion:

Charles Robinson,
Yahoo! Sports: “The franchise has shoveled massive amounts of money and high draft picks into a defense that has almost no pop. And Marc Bulger can’t function behind that offensive line. It’s only a week in, but this team already looks like a continuation of last season’s disappointment. Maybe worse. It’s hard to remember the Rams looking worse than they did in Sunday’s 38-3 loss.”

Clark Judge, CBSSports.com: “Believe it or not, it only gets worse for Scott Linehan and the St. Louis Rams. Their next six opponents are, in order: the New York Giants, Seattle, Buffalo, Washington, Dallas and New England. Let’s see, I count five playoff teams in there, last season’s Super Bowl opponents and a reigning Super Bowl champ. Say goodnight, Scott.”

Mike Sando, ESPN.com: “(Torry) Holt caught one pass for 9 yards during the Rams’ 38-3 defeat at Philadelphia. He technically wasn’t a starter, either, as the Rams opened the game in a personnel group featuring Dane Looker and three tight ends. The idea was to pound the ball with Steven Jackson. But Holt remained invisible even after the Rams fell behind and had to pass. He went without a reception until the third quarter.”

Thomas George, NFL.com: “Marc Bulger watched the Eagles complete passes of 47, 52 and 90 yards, the last one for a touchdown. But his longest completion was for only 31 yards and the only points the Rams scored came on a field goal with 9 minutes left. That made it a 38-3 loss. That made Rams coach Scott Linehan 7-21 in his last 28 games.”

Michael Silver
, Yahoo! Sports: “After the Rams were pummeled by the Eagles, 38-3, I asked a St. Louis player what he thought was wrong. His one-word answer: ‘Everything.’”

YOUR FANTASY TEAM IS RUINED

Darren Rovell of CNBC offered this economic impact update:  “Tom Brady will still make his 2008 salary. The Patriots will still sell out. So who’s the most hurt in the most immediate future by the New England Patriots quarterback and his potential season ending knee injury? Average Joes, who happened to draft Brady in their fantasy football league this year.

“Brady’s loss to those fantasy owners could shift about $150 million in fantasy league winnings from those who had Brady to those that didn’t, according to Jeff Thomas, CEO of SportsBuff.com, a fantasy sports site.”
