More Fun With Tony Romo And T.O.

Ah, the memories between T.O. and Romo . . .

There have been so many great times with Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens and his (sob) quarterback, Tony Romo. Here is a brief look at their relationship:

Yeah, it’s just not fair.

The Sunday night Giants-Cowboys game allowed NBC to work the latest controversy for hours on end. Did Romo and tight end Jason Witten conspire to freeze T.O. out of the offense? Did they hold private meetings to draw up secret plays?

Did Owens have reason to feel betrayed?

Did Witten and Owens nearly come to blows Friday, as the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported?

If so, Cowboys coach Wade Phillips must feel like an assistant middle school principal dealing with all this immaturity. Fortunately, Phillips was able to get the schoolgirls, er, Cowboys ready to beat the Giants in a crucial game.

“Last night I said, ‘Hey, let’s go out and play,’ ” Phillips said. “All the words and stuff is gone. Just go out and play. That’s the only thing I did anything about it . . . Teammates have to play. It is a family. I’m not saying what happened or what didn’t happen, but brothers get in fights. But then they come back to their family and they fight for each other. I think that’s what our guys did.”

MYSTERIES OF THE UNIVERSE

Questions to ponder while awaiting video proof that that the Steelers actually scored their game-winning touchdown:

  • What’s with those officials? Did they have a jet to catch?
  • Who could have possibly guessed the Rams would fold, at home, against the equally hapless Seahawks?
  • If Ram players like Jim Haslett so much, why don’t they play for him?

To be this consistently bad, doesn’t a NFL team WANT to lose?

THE LIST

SportsPickle.com offered some favorite Heisman Trophy memories. They included:

  • 1935 — Inaugural winner Jay Berwanger says it is an honor to have his name mentioned with Heisman winners such as Jay Berwanger.
  • 1968 — O.J. Simpson takes the Heisman Trophy at gunpoint.
  • 1982 — Herschel Walker wins a narrow vote over John Elway, Eric Dickerson and Walker’s eight personalities/
  • 1986 — Vinny Testaverde is forced to ad lib after his prepared speech is intercepted on his way up to the podium.
  • 2000 — 28-year-old Chris Weinke wins the Heisman, giving himself another distinction on campus other than the creepy, old guy who can buy you beer.

FUTURE CINCINNATI BENGALS?

The Boston Herald brought us this depressing story:

The down-on-their-luck Dorchester Eagles Pop Warner team - who pleaded with the public for donations to allow them to go to Florida for a championship game - were kicked out of their Sunshine State hotel after they got in a tussle with another midget team.

The Dorchester Eagles, aged 11 to 15, and the Edgewood Eagles of Rhode Island were kicked out of their Disney hotel on Thursday after the two teams got into a physical fight in the hotel cafeteria, said Pop Warner spokesman Jason Howarth.

“It was multiple members of the Dorchester Eagles midget team assaulting people affiliated with the Edgewood Eagles,” including players, he said.

Dorchester Eagles President Leslie Goodwin said the accusations are false.

“It’s not the truth,” Goodwin said in an interview from Florida. “The whole thing has been discombobulated and people are not telling the truth. Our players did not assault a Rhode Island coach.”

SEC coaches are keeping a close watch on these kids.

QUIPS ‘R US

Here is what some of America’s leading sports pundits have been writing:

Scott Ostler, San Francisco Chronicle: “Drew (Next Question) Rosenhaus is a busy boy. He reps Owens and Plaxico Burress. If an alien from planet Uzurq6 came to earth packing a death ray, you know who his agent would be.”

Dan Daly, Washington Times: “The Yankees give CC Sabathia a $161 million contract, then turn around and hand A.J. Burnett an $82.5 million deal. You know, maybe the carmakers should have gone to Hank Steinbrenner for a bailout.”

Bill Simmons
, ESPN.com, on Browns receiver Braylon Edwards: “What if the Browns saved every game ball that Edwards dropped during the ‘08 season and auctioned them afterward as a collector’s set? Would it go for $1,500, $3,000, $4,500? Imagine a sports bar buying it and building a special shelf behind the bar to accommodate 27 dropped footballs from Braylon? The Browns fans would go there just to stare at it the same way people stare at the Grand Canyon. I would strongly consider this idea for next season.”

Daly again: “Sabathia’s contract, by the way, is for seven years or seven waist sizes, whichever comes first.”

MEGAPHONE

“No one wants to be part of that. No one wants to have their name involved with that. It’s tough to swallow, everybody says we stink. We don’t have much debate with that.”

Lions quarterback Dan Orlovsky, on Detroit’s bid to go 0-16.

Did we sign Fuentes yet? It’s so rare for the Cards to drag their feet like this…

Who could have guessed that by Week 15 the Rams would be discovering new ways to blow games? No way the Rams can bring Haslett back now, even if they want to. The boys sure have a funny way of showing that they want him stay as the coach.

Why would the Cardinals not offer Miles a contract? He fills his role perfectly and does everything this team asks. What are they really going to save by trying to sign him after the non tender date? Hopefully another team will show some appreciation to him and the Cardinals way of doing business will bite them in the backside.

Is it just me or does George Bush have better reflexes than Manny Legace?

Does anyone really want Haslett back anyway? Nice guy, not so nice coach (especially HIS old defense). Wins are ‘meaningless’ now, get another high draft pick and try to right this horrible mess of a team. Oh, and cut Ingognito.

The Miles situation is hard to fathom. The guy does everything asked of him and is a solid citizen too. I’d hate to see the Cardinals lose him but it’s probably what they deserve. Compared to what they paid to guys who didn’t throw a pitch last year, he doesn’t cost much at all.

Gordo - “If the Rams players like Jim Haslett so much, why won’t they play for him?” I think this is the problem. In the first few weeks after Linehan was fired Haslett seemed like a fireball of a coach that the players responded to out of fear of the unknown. The results were 2 good wins. Then they figured out that Haslett was their buddy and went back to their loser ways because they knew it was OK not to play hard. The Rams need a coach that all the players hate and are afraid of. The new coach needs to end a few players careers early (insert your favorites here)so those reamining will play hard for fear of the same.

The ref at the Steelers/Ravens game didn’t have a plane to catch, they had reservations for the 8pm show at the local Gentlemen’s Club.
