Plaxico Cares Not For Your Invoice

Giants receiver Plaxico Burress needs to pull himself together. When he isn’t shooting himself in the leg, he is wreaking all sorts of havoc away from the field.

Tipsheet noticed this news item:

The Associated Press found that, since Burress joined the NFL in 2000, he has been sued at least nine times by people who said he failed to pay a debt, damaged their car or didn’t pay his taxes.

The people seeking payment from the football star run the gamut, from a Pennsylvania homeowners association trying to collect delinquent dues to a Florida woman whose car Burress rear-ended while driving without insurance. Why? He hadn’t paid the premium.

The pattern of irresponsible behavior extends beyond unpaid debts, records show.

In his hometown of Virginia Beach, Va., Burress has been fined for reckless driving, noise and public intoxication, and threatened with arrest after he didn’t show up in court. Last year in Florida, where he has a home, police twice cited Burress for speeding in the weeks before the car crash, which also earned him a ticket for careless driving.

THIS CAN’T BE GOOD

From the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

“Former Atlanta Falcons running back Jamal Anderson was released from jail Sunday night following his arrest earlier in the day after an off-duty police officer witnessed him snorting cocaine in the men’s room of a Buckhead bar, Atlanta police said.

“Anderson, 36, and Mark Daniel Hudson, 20, both of Duluth, were in the same stall inside the men’s room at Peachtree Tavern about 3 a.m. Sunday, snorting powder cocaine off the toilet tank, police spokesman Otis Redmond said.”

Dirty Bird indeed.

ON A LIGHTER NOTE

MYSTERIES OF THE UNIVERSE

Questions to ponder while Skip Schumaker gets serious about playing second base:

  • How will history remember the Adam Kennedy Era in St. Louis?
  • If Kennedy was never going to play for the Cardinals this season, then why did the team let Aaron Miles walk?
  • Does all this mean that Brendan Ryan has a chance to escape The Skipper’s doghouse?

QUIPS ‘R US

Here is what some of America’s leading sports pundits have been writing:

Mike Bianchi, Orlando Sentinel: “It would be one thing if Pete Carroll or Bob Stoops were to level this accusation, but who is Lane Kiffin to be accusing Urban Meyer — the best coach in college football — of breaking the rules? This is like Bowzer of Sha Na Na accusing Springsteen of stealing his songs.”

Dan Daly, Washington Times: “Did you see Todd Haley, the new coach in Kansas City, was a golfer in college, not a football player? In fact, he used to be an assistant pro at Burning Tree Country Club in Bethesda. Which raises the question: Who did he beat out for the Chiefs job, Butch Harmon?”

Greg Cote, Miami Herald: “The Marlins are set to open spring training next week, and the artist renderings of the team’s new stadium are out. I can attest to the accuracy of the drawings, because in them all of the seats are empty.”

Scott Ostler, San Francisco Chronicle: “Three months in dry dock for Michael Phelps, for a bong hit? I’m not defending Phelps’ partying, but our last three U.S. presidents did worse during their younger days, and none of them ever got a timeout.”

MEGAPHONE

“I was a little disappointed in that because A-Rod will probably be the player of the decade in the 2000s, and the player of the decade probably for the 90s is Ken Griffey Jr. And I’ve just never heard those two guys linked to any kind of enhancement as far as drugs are concerned. So I was a little surprised that A-Rod did that in 2001, 2002 and 2003. I don’t want to listen to all this B.S. on ESPN about how he was a kid and didn’t know what he was doing and stuff like that. I mean, you did it. You admitted it. Go on with your life.”

ELSEWHERE ON STLTODAY

You cyber-correspondent weighed in on the Kennedy Termination and the Blues’ unfortunate goaltending history. That became a hot topic during our live chat Monday, as you could guess. Hockey Guy weighed in on Andy McDonald’s contract extension. And Tipsheet broke down the KU-Mizzou game on the fly last night.

By the way, how high is Mike Anderson’s stock right now?

Wow. This was quite a “copy-paste” edition of Tipsheet.

Well, I was sniffing glue anyway, so the cut-paste thing seemed to be the thing to do today. Enjoy!

Nice to know Tipsheet “keeps it real” and makes their own Valentine cards.

Jamal Anderson was in the same stall with another guy snorting coke off the toilet. Now that’s class! At least Phelps had a killer bong.

Plaxico has learned to behave like any other affluent American. No need to pay your bills or taxes.

Was Senator Craig also in the stall with Jamal?

Something really stinks with this entire Kennedy issue. They wait until February 9th to make this decision and just a few weeks after saying that he was your starter at 2B? While I am no Adam Kennedy fan, at least he is a proven player at the Major League level. Who exactly is going to fill that position now? You just don’t take an outfielder and make him a middle infielder in two months at this level. One thing is for sure, TLR holds personal grudges and if he is crossed, that player will be gone no matter what. Tony didn’t want Kennedy around, period.

This is an organization that throws nickels around like they are manhole covers and all of the sudden they are willing to eat $4 million? What happened to all of the talk about tight finances or bad economy? How there was no money to sign another SP or RP? Now this? If this was the plan, why not cut him back in November? If Skip was your choice all along why was he not playing after the season somewhere? True contenders DO NOT make moves like this; they have a plan and don’t make knee jerk reactions a week before Spring Training.

Just one request to Cardinal management – can you inject just a little common sense at some point?

Relax MU fans; your team finally won a meaningful game for the first time in years. I wouldn’t buy those Final Four tickets yet.

Another nice move by the Blues to sign McDonald, they just keep plugging away. You’ve got to admire the way they have conducted business over the last few years. Maybe the other two teams in town will learn a few lessons on how to run an organization.

Well’ there goes 10% of the 40 mil the Cards had for free agent signings this year. I hope they’ve something up their sleeve or it’s going to be hard to sell tickets in this economy, because with the current team I think that 4th place finish last year is going to look pretty good.

Really…cant we at least see some professionalism, who is screening these articles? Love tipsheet but this computer jargon has no place in an online news journal. Polish it up folks, proofread for cryin out loud. I’m okay with cut and paste but geesh! Humor us with better writing.

Gotta disagree with you S.W. on one thing. The way Kennedy has played the last couple of years does not make me think “proven player” at the ML level. Yeah he is a veteran, but a veteran wilth diminishing skills and possibly disruptive in the clubhouse. All those young kids fighting for outfield spots paid off for the Cards last year, I think we could see the same thing but for the infield this year. Maybe there is a method to this madness…

Gordon hasn’t come up with anything to write in years. He believes he’s the current version of Bob Burnes. Questions to ponder before you are unemployed by the PD.
