HD on KMOV?

I’m hearing rumors that the news on KMOV (Channel 4) will go high-def by the end of the month. HD fanatics have been anticipating this and grumbling that it’s taking so long. As of Monday morning, the station wasn’t ready to confirm the accuracy of the reports, but I feel pretty certain it’s true.

Gail,

They won’t confirm going HD? Interesting since I saw an ad during the game yesterday that said they were going HD. Wouldn’t say when, but that they will. Weird.

HiDef? Unless you have Charter. Then it won’t make any difference, because you won’t get it anyway.

I saw two ads, one just about a 3 second teaser “KMOV-HD”; then a longer one listing DirectTV, etc., but certainly NOT cable as where and how viewers will be able to see it.

This is just silly isn’t it? If ABC can get it done, why not KMOV? A pox on both their houses.

I don’t care unless they give all of their cameramen HD cameras. On KSDK, the studio shots are the only ones in HD…when they do a live shot it’s still standard and looks like carp. Who wants to count the anchor’s nose hair?

If KMOV wants their local HD telecast to reach more viewers in the St Louis area, their parent company BELO with have to get off their a$$ and start making their HD signal available to the bulk of their local viewers on Charter. How is it that a local television station can deny their HDTV signal to a locally headquartered cable TV company? It doesn’t make sense when ALL the other local broadcast channels make their HD signal available to Charter. What is the problem between KMOV/BELO and Charter? What is the answer to this Gail?

I don’t know why you blame KMOV. I think Charter is equally at fault. As big an issue as this is with you, JTG, why haven’t you gone to satellite long ago, or done as many people I know have done and put up an antenna to receive local channels in HD over the air? By the way, I’ve seen a statistic that 20 percent of TV viewers in St. Louis can receive HD and 5 percent of those have Charter. Does this sound accurate to anybody?
