‘Idol’ night 2 — oh, Kyle!

He could have been a contender. But 20-year-old Kyle Rennick of Edwardsville confused the “American Idol” judges Wednesday night by dressing half like a rocker and half like a clown. And the “guyliner”? Possibly the last straw. Whether he was even a good singer, let alone good enough to go to Hollywood, remains undetermined.
Otherwise, “Idol” should be a little worried that I didn’t mist up once during the audition stories in Dallas. In the first two outings of the season, ratings are down about 20 percent from last year. I believe that’s a hangover from a previous disappointing season, but it may be possible that “Idol” was overdue for a fall and this is it.
