The writers strike is over –now what?

The writers vote tonight, in Los Angeles and New York, on the new contract they’ve already given a thumb’s-up, and there’s little chance it won’t be ratified. Some show runners went back to work on Monday, and the writers themselves are expected to be back at their desks Wednesday. (Hope they don’t stay up too late celebrating after casting their votes.) Then what?

Most of what is being reported at this point is still educated guessing. We know some shows will return as quickly as possible, even with expanded seasons; others will return, but not till fall; still others will never return. Several websites are keeping track of all this, but TV Guide is doing such a great job of this, updating the strike chart in Michael Ausiello’s blog hourly, that this is your best resource.

The only thing official I have so far is that ABC has renewed nine shows for fall: “Brothers and Sisters,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Lost,” “Ugly Betty,” “Private Practice,” “Pushing Daisies,” “Dirty Sexy Money” and “Samantha Who.”

On my wish list for the remainder of this season? More ”Lost” — if not the eight additional episodes (for a total of 16) that we were promised, at least a few more. But I also don’t want them rushing and screwing up the story. And of course I’d like more “Heroes,” but I’m hearing that won’t happen. The episodes we saw completed the season’s first story arc, and they don’t want to start a second arc and interrupt it halfway through — and we wouldn’t want them to.

Since the season of “Heroes” appears to be “Lost”, I’d like to give “24″ one more chance. But one more bad season and I”ll give up on the show. Oh, yeah, and I miss “30 Rock” and “The Office” - two of the smartest written shows around.

My one wish is now that the strike appears to be over, I hope that the writers can give us better stuff next season.

The show I want to see is Moonlight on CBS. It is smart, fun, romantic, exciting and totally different. The cast chemistry is fantastic!. If you have not seen it, catch it when (if ) it returns!
