Seriously, this should be illegal. I couldn’t listen to a single performance all the way through — almost made it through “Let It Be,” but no — and hated even the ones the judges liked. I’m not a Beatles purist: I loved the movie “Across the Universe.” And I enjoyed David Archuleta’s “Imagine” a while back. But last night was two hours in hell, not just the singing but the arrangements and the backup singers and the band that didn’t all seem to go together. The only thing that could have saved the evening for me was a surprise appearance by John Lennon, not dead after all but in hiding all these years, with Elvis.

And you didn’t even mention forgetting the words to a song.

No one, with the exception of Ray Charles (and that isn’t likely to happen again), should ever re-record a Beatles song - never!
