Proving I could not be a judge on this show (not that I was much of a contender to replace Paula anyway), the performance I liked best Tuesday night was Syesha’s “Fever.” Which was dismissed by all — but if she recorded an album of jazzy, R&Bish standards, even something like an Ella Fitzgerald tribute CD, it might be really enjoyable. And she is so beautiful, surely she’ll make it somewhere in entertainment. As for the show in general, I appreciated the brisk pace, with nine songs in an hour. But was it fair for the judges to make such a point of criticizing song choice when they themselves chose one of the three and the producers chose another? I felt as if the judges (Simon in particular) were just trying to one-up the person who chose by slamming the selection, which was not fair to the performers.
