‘America’s Next Top Model’: Size 10 triumphs!
Unbelievably, the plus-size girl won “America’s Next Top Model.” Even more unbelievably, winner Whitney is “plus size” at size 10! As Tyra Banks told “Miss J.” earlier in the episode, “She’s not big. Only in modeling is she big. On the street, she’s just a hot girl.”
Actually, the most damning slam against Whitney throughout was that she was, if possible, too pretty — and too “pageanty.” The judges often told her she came off as fake, but they were easier on some of the other women who seemed equally fake to me, especially when trying (and failing) to act. But two things made Whitney the winner (in addition to the fact that Tyra Banks is worried about eating disorders in too-skinny models): She peaked at the right time, taking direction well and improving, and the sponsor is Cover Girl. If I’ve ever seen a Cover Girl model, it’s Whitney. I was pretty sure she had it in the bag as soon as Fatima, who seemed to have been anointed the winner early on despite being really, really annoying, was eliminated third from last.
I liked the way judge Paulina Porizkova summed Whitney up: ”This should not be called plus size or full-figured. This should just be called beautiful.”

Hands down Whitney is simply gorgeous! Enough with the attention on her size . . . she’s absolutely stunning, smart, funny and she will probably go the furthest out of all the winners!
Make us all proud Whitney!
I knew Whitney was going to win because as a “plus-size” model (although she is not plus size) she made it so far in the competition. The judges weren’t going to let that go. They’ve been trying to get a “plus-size” model for awhile, but they all ended up going pretty early on. I’m glad they final got a normal sized girl as their model. Now the average sized girl can feel good about her size and not think she needs to lose weight. Yay!!!!
I want to focus on her size because it made me watch and it made me clap and squeel on my sofa when she won!! I am a size 8 but I feel fat constantly!! I would love to be considered beautiful just the way I am. I am so proud of and happy for Whitney! I searched for a site just to report my approval of the winner. I would watch every episode of America’s Next Top Model if there were normal sized beautiful women competing. Whitney is inspiration for American women and girls.
I’m so happy there’s now a real model out there.. I’m also a little upset that she’s considered Plus Siz. Maybe in the modeling world where you’re considered over weight if you’re size 3 but in the real world- a size 10 is 80% of us women, and i dont find that to be Plus Size at all- its REAL WOMAN SIZE!
Congrats Whitney! Knew she’d go all the way right from the very beginning. She looked fabulous in that pink gown!! My idol!
I’m thrilled that Whitney won!! I been rooting for her since I first saw her.
Shes definitely not what I consider plus size but I understand for modeling shes considered plus. She looked fabulous in the pink dress!!
Goooo Whitney!!!
I am happy for the winner, but it is a telling commentary of the times that we live in when a size 10 is referred to as a plus size. It is also a very telling fact that her ‘plus size’ is a major factor for discussion.
OMG! A size 10 now is an oversized model. How great would it be to see a model in a magazine who is size 10 (yeah a realy women in America)wearing the clothing so that you know what it is going to look like on you. Come on! I work out 6 days a week and I’m a size 8……0 is not a size! Eat a sandwhich….ok eat a banana and a low fat cereal. I say that if you’re a size 0 you need to consider what is wrong with you life. Bones are not sexy! I only want to see your ribs if I’m performing an X-ray to see if you broke anything. OK Done!
The only people who will call this winner plus sized are women and fashion designers.
No (straight) male would ever consider her plus sized/big boned/overweight…whatever other term you want to use.
Only goes to show you, women are their own worst enemies.
If only the picture was posted, the comments would be that this is a very attractive woman. It’s only with the article/comments written by women that anyone would guess she’s considered plus sized.
i was weirded out when i saw they called her a plus size model.. i mean come on. thats rediculous. i agree with what paulina said. theres beauty in ever size and shape. im glad to finally see someone ”normal” sized and not a rake handle win it. maybe it will help other girls realise that they dont have to be rake thin to be beautiful (personally i dont think rake thin is pretty at all so eh lol)
