It’s official: CBS cancels ‘Moonlight,’ ‘Shark’

As expected, “Cane” was canceled too. But “The Unit” survives, moving to Sundays in the fall. ”New Adventures of Old Christine” was also renewed at the 11th hour. And speaking of “Eleventh Hour,” CBS picked up a drama called that, from Jerry Bruckheimer, with Rufus Sewell as a crime-solving science professor.

Other new dramas are “The Mentalist,” with Simon Baker as a celebrity psychic turned detective, and “The Ex List,” a romantic dramedy about a woman (Elizabeth Reaser, Ava/Rebecca on “Grey’s Anatomy”) who is told by a psychic that she’s already dated her future husband and sets out to find him.

The two new CBS comedies are “Project Gary,” starring Jay Mohr and Paula Marshall, and “Worst Week,” about a man trying to win over his girlfriend’s conservative parents.

The CBS week looks like this:

SUNDAY: “60 Minutes,” “The Amazing Race,” “Cold Case,” “The Unit.”
MONDAY: “The Big Bang Theory,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “Two and a Half Men,” “Worst Week,” “CSI: Miami.”
TUESDAY: “NCIS,” “The Mentalist,” “Without a Trace.”
WEDNESDAY: “The New Adventures of Old Christine,” “Project Gary,” “Criminal Minds,” “CSI: NY.”
THURSDAY: “Survivor,” “CSI,” “Eleventh Hour.”
FRIDAY: “Ghost Whisperer,” “The Ex List,” “Numb3rs.”
SATURDAY: “Crimetime” repeats, “48 Hours Mystery.”

So they replaced Moonlight with a reinvented version of “How I met your mother?” Very disappointing.

Moonlight was cancelled. Did someone at CBS finally realize that vampires DO NOT survive in the daylight?

Good choice cancelling Moonlight.

Greater choice by renewing The Big Bang Theory.

I wasn’t interested in any of those programs except CANE. I do think that CANE would be best suited for HBO or another suck channel. The others that were cancelled were just their time. My opinion, of course.

Can’t believe they cancelled Moonlight. Guess it was different from all the other carbon copies on the air ie law and order, law and order svu, law and order criminal intent. Not to mention csi, csi ny, csi miami. Maybe they should make a 2nd version and call it Moonlight - Chicago. Do a spinoff and it will survive!

I can’t believe CBS is droping Shark but renewing The New Adventures of Old Christine! I believe it’s a time slot issue rather than the quality of the show. Why not move it to the slot after CSI on Thursdays? I feel 9pm Sundays isn’t a great time slot for very many shows. Probably the only one that would survive that time slot would be CSI, but then your Thursday falls apart until the next Survivor series.

Needless to say, I’m very disappointed that they canceled “Moonlight”, and I hope whatever they replace it with fails. Maybe it wasn’t the highest rated of CBS’s Friday night lineup, but many shows take more than one season to find an audience. It had improved with each episode, and there was definitely a fan base. As I recall, the first season of “The X-Files” had similar ratings. Good thing it wasn’t on CBS, or it would have been canceled and long forgotten.

The suits in Hollywood are so quick to remind us that it’s a business and all about money. But they forget that without the viewers they wouldn’t be in business, so how about a little viewer loyalty. All they ever do is look at numbers instead of going with a gut feeling or considering the fans. Besides, I’m not convinced that the archaic Nielsen Rating System accurately represents what people are watching. With today’s technology there’s got to be a better way.

“Shark” got moved around so much I think many fans lost track of it. You can usually predict the life span of anything that gets stuck in that horrible Sunday night time slot where viewers have to guess the starting time. This of course is due to some sporting event which unlike any other program is allowed all the time it needs. Shouldn’t sports have their own channel? Oh wait, they do, in fact several channels. But I digress . . .

What happened to “Without A Trace?”

I hate to see Shark cancelled. It was a great “law” show and also had a good story line with the father/daughter relationship. Probably due to switching it to different time slot. Sorry to see it go– Woods was perfect in the role!!! His best ever!!
