Khandi Alexander exits ‘CSI: Miami’
Gail Pennington
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

I gave up “CSI: Miami” — the most-watched TV show in the world! — sometime around the third season. Just wasn’t enjoying the bad-acting festival that is David Caruso, and also couldn’t get on board the evolution of the show from procedural to action melodrama, with Horatio Caine doing everything but leaping tall buildings in a single bound. But I tuned in last night to see how they’d write out Khandi Alexander, an original cast member as Dr. Alexx Woods, the touchy-feely coroner. Not everybody loved Alexx and the way she talked to the dead, but she was a unique character, and I think they sent her off well, giving her a whole episode to decide to leave the team to “spend more time with the living.”

Alexander reportedly quit rather than being fired. There are lots of negatives to “Miami,” including the fact that it shoots in Miami. Caruso is reportedly, er, difficult. Shows like this have a lot of turnover anyway, because unless you’re one of the leads, the role can be limiting. And Alexander has a history of liking to move on; she left “NewsRadio” in the fourth of its five seasons. So all this added up to hitting the road, and a new coroner next season.
