How does anybody on the West Coast ever avoid spoilers? I’m in Los Angeles, where the TV Critics Association’s summer press tour started today, and rushed back to the room at 9 p.m. Pacific time to watch the “Hell’s Kitchen” finale. But as soon as I logged onto my computer I got the news that our gal Christina had won. Not a surprise, but still, I’d rather have preserved the suspense a while longer, at least until they had their hands on the doorknobs. Nevertheless — yay, Christina! Food editor Judy Evans was at the finale party at Revival, and here’s her story if you haven’t read it. Judy’s Recipe Exchange blog also has the finale menu and a recipe.

And speaking of missing things — I was a minute or two late and didn’t see how Petrozza decided to choose Jen (yikes!) over Matt. Fill me in, please. It’s hell watching TV without a DVR — why didn’t I get a Slingbox when I had a chance?

Petrozza somehow didn’t notice the attitude Jen had. He thought she was a better technical chef than Matt was. And Christina was happier to get Matt over Jen. (Actually, I wouldn’t have been surprised if Jen had tried to sabotage Christina if things had gone the other way.)

Christina competed the smart way on the finale. She had a simple menu which her team wouldn’t have trouble with (Other than Matt), and that helped in her execution of the service. I am sure that Petrozza running out of two appetizers didn’t swing well in his favor.

As for the Matt and Jen situation, I agree that Jen would likely had sabotaged Christina out of spite. Matt almost did this without trying.
