TCA press tour: ‘Deadwood’ dead meat
HBO’s programming bosses have pretty much driven a stake through the heart of hopes for those promised”Deadwood” finale movies. Even though “John From Cincinnati” didn’t make it, David Milch is writing another pilot for HBO, and nobody (except fans) remains interested in “Deadwood.” Here’s what HBO’s co-presidents had to say:
Richard Plepler: David, delightfully for us and soon to be known by you, is working on a pilot called “Last of the Ninth” about New York City Police Department, 1970s. And that’s really where he’s put his energy. We’re very excited about it. I think it’s safe to report to you that the likelihood of a “Deadwood” movie happening is slim to none.
Michael Lombardo: We had never even gotten to (an order for a script). It was really more of a discussion stage. And it’s never gone beyond that. And some of it’s been a function of time. Some of it’s been a function of intervening events. David did “John.” Now he’s moved to another show. The actors are off doing — I mean, a number of them are series regulars on other shows. And as Richard said, it just did not ever really come together and coalesce. So –
