TCA press tour: Groped by a cartoon!
Technically, not a cartoon but a person in a dog suit. A big, furry, Brian the Dog suit. Please, let me explain.
Fox brought nine producers from its animated shows — Matt Groening and Al Jean from “The Simpsons,” Mike Judge from “King of the Hill,” Seth MacFarlane from “Family Guy” and more — together for a panel, preceded by a “Fox Sunday Sundae Break.” (Seriously, as if anyone in this building needed more sugar today.) While people were lining up for the ice cream, costumed characters roamed the room, some of them just running into things (they can’t see in those big heads, and “Peggy Hill” was particularly disoriented) and others waving and interacting and staying in character.
Most in character was Brian from “Family Guy,” who carried a martini and was widely reported to be groping women — in an innocent cartoon-dog way, of course. (Or was it?) At least one man also reported being groped. The vast majority of the “victims” didn’t mind; after all, we’ve been out here for a week tomorrow. And the one person who threatened to file a sexual harassment suit in cartoon dog court probably didn’t mean it.
I was told later that a Fox publicist had been heard belatedly telling Brian. “Don’t. Touch. The Critics.” Aw, boo.
