Fox’s ‘Fringe’: fabulous or fizzle?
It’s 10 minutes and counting to the “Fringe” premiere, and I’ve already seen most of it three times (yes, in fact, I WAS trying to figure it out), so I’m not going there again. But I’m eager to hear what everybody else thinks.
An unfinished version was leaked last spring, not by the producers, co-creator J.J. Abrams insists. Based on the extended version that will air — 1 hour and 35 minutes, with limited interruptions — “Fringe” is flawed but with a ton of potential. It’s convoluted, improbable, gratuitiously wacky (and gratuitously disgusting), charming, annoying and sometimes breathtaking. It’s the fall show I want to like most, and I like it a lot, but I wish it were easier to love.
“Fringe” is the poster show for how hard it can be to judge from a pilot how good the actual show is going to be. So, what do you think? And, based on the final scene, is there any chance you won’t watch again?

I think Fringe has a lot of potential, but it’s too early to tell. The pilot was overly melodramatic and somewhat predictable, and the music was distracting. And you know it’s the future when every location has its own floating stone block signs. I’ll keep watching and I hope Fox gives it a long enough run to prove itself. One thing I noticed tonight is that I’m getting better at spotting fake American accents.
This show was lame. Predictable. Boring. And the fact that they just had to launch a fake website along with the pilot pretty much added to this “jump the shark” moment.
Thumbs down.
has potential. i will see how it developes over the next few episodes before i make a decision. i agree the music was a bit distracting.
I bought the hype, but ended up changing the channel after an hour. The convoluted episode was trying too hard to set up the rest of the season instead of trying to make this one episode the focus of my attention. The acting was not good, but Anna Torv was truly awful. The show might get better after they make mid-course corrections, but I wont watch it again until (and unless) it makes it to season 2.
I thought it was good. It has more potential than some of the far out shows they tried pushing out last year.
I watched most of it while hitting the fast forward toward the end. Besides being kind of boring and predictable I am not comfortable with its overtly anti future and anti capitlist themes. Truly tired and worn out. Go protest a Starbucks or research facility, don’t make crappy TV shows.
Excuse me where we all watching the same show…
Fringe? Because none of the comments above seems to think much of it and I can not see how that’s possible.
People the show was Fantastic!
I loved it where you even paying attention to the things that where happening in the episode? These things are a real possiblity folks and could and may have already happened, is it so hard to believe that we got trouble right here. The show is trying to make us look beyound our reality and think about the possibility of the things that we are suppose to believe are impossible!
I can see that some of us are not ready for those possibilities and if we all thought like that we would all still be in the STONE AGE!
I like it so far and watched the entire episode. Of course, I was also working at the time, so it didn’t have my full attention and I’m sure I missed some things. But, I’ll tune in again, it appeals to me so far.
I liked it! I found it a combination of the suspense of “24″ with the twists and plots of “X-Files”. I am looking forward to how they develop the scenarios in the future. The show is trying to make us look beyond our current reality and think about the possibility of the things that are possible with scientific discoveries! Don’t live in what you think is “today”…look at what “might be” going on behind the scenes. We make great strides in science every day…these could be a reality in the near future!
I will be watching it again. Its the kind of show I like…..betrayal,
sci-fi, action, top secret type of stuff. The pilot was good, but I think the show will be better. I hope this one survives…….
