‘Survivor: Gabon’ — goofy in a good way

Lots to like about the new season of “Survivor,” including a locale in which elephants (how cool) can wander into the camp site. The casting folks turned up the usual quotient of the young and beautiful, but also a lot of real characters, including Randy from Eagle Rock, Mo., the wedding videographer who hates marriage and had a lot of snarky things to say to the cameras. He also split his head open and had to have the medics in the very first night — kudos! The castaways chose tribes, playground style, and the result was a good tribe and a terrible tribe, which has lost every challenge so far and argues about everything — very entertaining. I also enjoyed the Exile Island twist in which the exile could choose between a clue and “comfort” — comfort being a hut and an apple. Dan, the first exile, chose the clue, couldn’t find the immunity idol and wound up staring sadly through the bars at the apple. At least he wasn’t back at camp, listing to his tribe mates squabble.

It is so great to have Survivor back! Come on, did anyone really think Gillian would make it very far? I wish they would have explained why some of the cast were wearing suits and a tie?! Even wearing their tie to Tribal Council.

I loved, loved The Office premiere, also. That hour flew by so fast and I was anxious for more.

Fun stuff. I’m going to enjoy this season, I think. It looks like it’s going to be a bloodbath for Gillian’s tribe, however.

I loved the shot of Dan digging everywhere…with a swish pan to the actual sand pit! That was a big chortle. I also got a chuckle out of the Gay guy’s crush on the straight doctor. What an Odd Couple of an alliance!

Is it a Survivor requirement that all the guys wear black boxer briefs? That really made me laugh too.

I’m done trying to handicap a winner…It’s just too unpredictable.

Oh, and the digital HD? STUNNING!!!
