TV critic back from vacation!
I’ve returned from a week off that was an actual week off — a road trip to New Orleans by way of Little Rock (saw the fascinating Clinton Library) on the way down and Tunica (ate at Paula Deen’s new buffet at Harrah’s) on the way back. In New Orleans, we did our best to boost the local economy by buying everything in sight, from T-shirts to local art to mango daiquiris. Although I saw some TV during the week, including the presidential debate, I came home to a very full DVR and still haven’t worked my way through everything. Watched “The Amazing Race” and “Project Runway” right away, of course. I’m caught up with “Heroes” — in the sense of having watched every episode, although I have no idea what I’ve seen — but remain way behind on “Fringe,” which fans urge me not to give up on. And I still haven’t seen a minute of “Brothers and Sisters” this season, which has three episodes built up — one of the warning signs that you’ve lost interest in a TV show.
We have some premieres and season premieres this week. “Eli Stone” returns tonight on ABC, and it will be interesting to see where that show (which had little fanfare last season and still built a devoted viewer base) goes with its story now that Eli (Jonny Lee Miller) has had brain surgery and lost his visions.
And Monday, I dived into the two-hour premiere of “Crusoe,” which arrives Friday on NBC. This show, a new spin on “Robinson Crusoe,” has a great website, and I recommend perusing it if you plan to watch the series, which I’ll be writing more about in Friday’s GO section. This isn’t an update; it’s still set in the 1900s, but there are touches of “MacGyver,” and a romance (told in flashback) back home in England. I thought it was silly yet beautiful and violent yet kid-friendly. At least it’s Something Completely Different for prime time.

Welcome back!! We missed you and although I’m sure you had a wonderful time, I’m certain you missed us. Ahem.
Hey, Gail! Welcome back.
I’m with you on Heroes…totally confused. And I’m ready for “something completely different” too…maybe the penguin on top of my telly will explode.
Thank goodness the PD has Joe Holleman, at least someone covered the Channel 11 layoffs, even though the PD was beaten again to the story by http://www.stlmedia.net.
