A lot of “Heroes” fans are threatening to become former fans if tonight’s flashback episode, “Villains,” proves as frustrating and disappointing as recent installments have. As I write this, I’m putting off starting to watch, because I really want to be pleasantly surprised, and I’m afraid I won’t be. I’ll be interested to hear what you have to say afterward, but first, a poll:

What’s your verdict on “Heroes” after the flashback episode?

Gail, don’t read this if you haven’t watched!! No spoilers, though.

I was hoping you’d have something up about “Heroes”, because I’m happy to say I didn’t hate tonight’s episode. I enjoyed seeing some back story that made sense, and it was interesting to see how they developed the characters and explained their motives. I just hope that they can keep it up next week. One thing that helped was not having 20 characters in the same show; it was a little easier to follow than usual. I voted “It was great”, but only because it was the option closest to what I thought of the show; it was better than it has been but not great. I’m really interested to know anyone else’s opinion, including yours, Gail. Hope it wasn’t just me. I will definitely watch next week.

It wasn’t great by any stretch. I think the thing that is missing is the sense of discovery of the first season. Also a main focus, i.e., “save the cheerleader”. Now it’s it more like, “tell the cheerleader to shut up”. I think it’s also fallen into the lamest story line of “evil corporate cover up” only this time with DNA. I don’t know, I’ll keep watching but only out of a sense of, “I’ve come this far…..”

I’m glad they started looping back around in the flashbacks to tie events together. IMHO it should have happened two episodes ago or more. I liked that they used Hiro as the ‘frame’ for the flashbacks.

That said, I need to schedule a Saturday afternoon to rewatch all of this season’s episodes, to see if they make more sense now.

That said, I really wish Heroes had the energy of LOST, the way it did in the first season. Keeping track this season is laborious.
