This week in television starts out uneventful, but stay tuned. May sweeps begin Thursday (yes, May sweeps on April 23) and will bring new episodes plus season finales and, alas, series finales. Here are seven shows that should be on your TV radar, the first of which doesn’t arrive until Thursday, giving you plenty of time to warm up the DVR.

‘Trouble the Water’
7:30 p.m. Thursday on HBO
As the waters of Hurricane Katrina rose in her Ninth Ward New Orleans neighborhood, Kimberly Rivers Roberts picked up her videocamera. Her footage is the heart of this documentary, nominated for an Oscar.

‘The Beast,’ season finale
9 p.m. Thursday on A&E
Unsatisfying and under-watched, the Patrick Swayze series ends its first seson with its future in doubt.

‘Unstable’
8 p.m. Saturday on Lifetime
Shiri Appleby stars as a newlywed whose loved ones may be trying to drive her insane. Kathy Baker plays her mother.

‘Chasing a Dream’
8 p.m. Saturday on Hallmark
In a new movie, Treat Williams plays a high school football coach whose son (Andrew Lawrence) decides to run track to honor a friend’s legacy.

‘King of the Hill’
6:30 p.m. Sunday on Fox
In its final season, “King of the Hill” celebrates its 250th episode, and years of syndication to come.

‘2009 TV Land Awards’
7 p.m. Sunday on TV Land
As a network, TV Land is dead to me. The strategy of ditching classic TV (miss you, “Dick Van Dyke Show”) in favor of reality shows like “The Cougar” has improved ratings with the coveted younger demographic (people over 50 have no money and never buy anything, you know), but I’ll pass, thanks. The TV Land Awards have been entertaining in the past, however, and the hilarious Neil Patrick Harris is this year’s host.

‘Law & Order: Criminal Intent’
8 p.m. Sunday on USA
Jeff Goldblum joins the cast as Detective Zach Nichols,  Julianne Nicholson’s off-center new partner. Just think of him as … unusual.

I tried watching the first episode of “The Beast”, and I just didn’t care for it. . . Saw some recent pictures of Patrick Swayze - so sad.

I agree with you about TV Land. With all the movies and reality shows, it’s hardly worth watching anymore. I’ve always wished Ted Turner could do for classic TV what he did for movies. “Turner Classic Television” - All the great shows restored, unedited and commercial free.
