‘Sit Down, Shut Up’: You be the critic

I was disappointed in this new Fox animated comedy from “Arrested Development” creator Mitch Hurwitz — mainly because it’s from “Arrested Development” creator Mitch Hurwitz. Then again, as much as I tried to force “Arrested Development’ on people during its run, many just didn’t think it was funny. “Sit Down, Shut Up,” about high school teachers, is too broad and sitcom-y for my taste, and the jokes felt overly familiar. Did you watch? What did you think?

If you missed my Sunday story in which Hurwitz talked about the show, find it HERE.

Yet another junior-high-male-mentality show hits the air and you’re surprised it’s not funny? The whole genre of “arrested humor development” isn’t over but it should be. Enough, already. How about something for grown-ups? How about something with some wit, some intelligence, some maturity? How about something that isn’t just another clone of what already exists? Where are the shows like, what was that one called - “Sports Night”, I think? Wow! That show was so freaking funny! And “Soap”? Even “Moonlighting”. Really. Shows that had heart, and real wit, not just toilet jokes and shock.

Wow. What a stinker.

I loved Arrested Development, and I like Family Guy. This isn’t even close to either one. I didn’t laugh once. It should go into the bin with Kath & Kim.

I liked Edie, especially since she married Dave and settled down a bit. I’d like to see her be the new narrator for the Sunday Night Soapster. Mary Alice is too much of a “ghost”; we can hardly identify her as a character since she died in the first episode.
