‘House’ finale pulls a fast one
*spoilers*
Whether you enjoyed the “House” season finale and were satisfied by the twist….
Or you hated it, and felt betrayed….
I think we can all agree: The end of the episode was mind-blowing. In fact, if the whole thing had turned out to take place in a snow globe (”St. Elsewhere” — anyone?), I wouldn’t have been shocked.
The details: While treating a man whose left hand was at odds with the rest of his body, House also wrestled with the aftermath of his detox from Vicodin and the ensuing hookup with Cuddy. This all moved along like a normal “House” episode, but I think if we rewatched it, we’d see clues to what was coming.
And wow, did the shocker arrive in the last 10 minutes. Turned out, House was seriously hallucinating, not just seeing Amber again but also the dead Kutner, and neither the detox nor the hookup actually occurred. (Please correct me if I’m getting anything wrong here. Mind was blown, as I pointed out.)
The end of the episode had Wilson, House’s BFF, driving him to a mental hospital right out of an earlier century, while back home, a happy Chase and Cameron — prettiest couple on TV? — were getting married. So that’s where we leave our hero: locked up in the looney bin, unsure how sick he really is and whether there’ll ever be a cure that lets him practice medicine again.
Already, websites are resounding with complaints. Not being invested in a House-Cuddy relationship (sorry; do not buy them as soulmates), I don’t feel ripped off. I do feel that we’ve gone to dark places many times with House, and this is the darkest. Now, it’s time to start fixing him. Next season.

You got it right, but I had to watch the last 10 minutes twice to make sure I got it right. I thought it was a brilliant episode, and that’s from someone who likes the idea of House-Cuddy (eventually).
I thought it was a good season finale, however - the commercials blew it completely. “Most shocking ever!” Uhh, no. Let’s recap some of the other shocking stuff we’ve seen on House.
-Foreman got infected with the bird water/pain illness that the cop who died had, was then in quarantine and nearly got Cameron infected by puncturing her with a dirty needle
-House was shot in his office and got better the next season (temporarily). C’mon, he was skateboarding!
-Kutner caught a patient on fire
-Amber (aka CTB, Cutthroat B*tch) died
-Thirteen nearly died after being the test guinea pig for the guy who held up the hospital in Cuddy’s office
-Kutner killed himself (lame way to write the guy out of the show, BTW)
I didn’t expect to see House in the condition he was in, and it was a good episode. There’s been more shocking stuff on this show before now though. They should have never killed Amber, but at least they’ve brought her back in some capacity as a hallucination.
I think many people figured Wilson was taking him to a detox center. Imagine my surprise when I realized it was a mental institution. The last 10 minutes were brilliantly done. What was real? What was not? All-in-all, a great episode.
I think this season has been on of the best . . . .the twists alone are (I agree) MINDBLOWING! I actually had to hit the info button to see if I could get more, but alas Season Finale! No way he is leaving, and I did read that they were trying to get into the characters a bit more as far as what makes them tick. I loved this episode! I see Taub becoming a key player after the cool diagnosis with the dancer! That was cool. So speculate, schizophrenia? What do we know about his parents, besides that his dad used to knock him around a bit . . . .I look forward to next season!
It wasn’t the most shocking ever, but it was pretty interesting.
The most confusing part: Wilson’s interactions with House. Were they real or imagined? I.E. did Wilson really think that House had detoxed and slept with Cuddy? Or did House imagine that part? I think Wilson had ‘reassured’ House at one point that detox and new relationship was a lot to take on in just 24 hours (or was it 48). So did Wilson have his doubts or did House just think he was saying that?
