‘Idol’ thoughts
* Camryn Manheim and her cute little boy, Homer, in the front row. He’s rocking out.
* Notice nobody much applauds when Kara DioGuardi is announced as No. 2 judge? Who expects her to be back next season?
* Adam is great repeating on “Mad World.” Love the long coat. Simon thinks the performance was a little too theatrical — too “Phantom of the Opera.” For Adam, I thought it was restrained.
* Kris is equally great, and accompanies himself on piano, on “Ain’t No Sunshine.” Can’t they both win? Simon gives Round 1 to Kris.
* Star-studded house. Sir Anthony Hopkins! Cheering!
* Wow, spoke too soon. SUPER star-studded house — Suri Cruise, on mom Katie Holmes’ lap. Katie seems to be covering Suri’s ears. Did they forget the cashmere-covered platinum earplugs?
* I’m wishing I’d come up with an adjective describing my love for “Glee” (which follows) vividly enough to be quoted in the Fox ad.
* “We’ve got ourselves a real live dual competition,” Randy says after the second performances, songs chosen by creator Simon Fuller. Neither second song leaves much of an impression on me for some reason. Simon Cowell thinks Adam got back in the game and Kris was “too laid back” for the finale. Gives Round 2 “one million percent” to Adam.
* Ewww! The original song by Kara is sappy; not my taste at all. However, it’s the kind of power ballad that could probably be a hit. I hate “Wind Beneath My Wings” and “You Lift Me Up,” too, so what do I know? Randy isn’t impressed by Adam’s version, “a little pitchy in spots for me.” Oddly, Kara is “moved and proud.”
* “St. Louis (Hearts) Adam” girls in the front row, holding a big yellow sign. Who knows them? I’m impressed by their multicolored lettering and outstanding seats.
* “I genuinely believe with all my heart that we have found” a worldwide star in Adam, Simon says, clearly drawing up the contracts now. “You are a class act,” Ryan tells Adam.
* Kris is shaky at the start of the Kara song, but he’s suited for the middle, if anyone is. “You should be very proud of what you’ve done in this competition,” Randy says, seeming to console Kris for being No. 2. “I don’t want you to be judged on that song,” Kara says, admitting the beginning was too high for him. Even Simon seems to offer consolation compliments.
* Just as the show seems to be wrapping up, Carrie Underwood performs, making “Idol” run over into “Glee.” All the promotion is pointless if DVRs cut off the end. Boo!

The top three best performances this season on Idol:
1. Adam: Tracks of my Tears
2. Kris: Heartless
3. Allison: Cry Baby
These were memorable.
Worst coronation song EVER!This proves Kara’s irrelevance.
I resolved to listen to the performers last night with FRESH ears, no preconceived notions or impressions. Kris impressed me more than he has all season. But when Kris and Adam both sang the same song at the end of the show, it became readily apparent that Adam is simply a more dynamic performer. It’s as if you could almost see Kris realize this during the first 30 seconds of his last song, that he knew his performance wasn’t up to the standard of Adam’s performance. He spent the rest of the song pushing himself to try to wring out every ounce of emotion from the song to try to leave a stronger impression.
Either of them could win tonight. But for my money, Adam remains the MUCH better performer.
Adam is awful. He is not as good of a singer as people make him out to be. Better than I am? Absolutely, but that’s why I’m not pursuing a singing career. He is too dramatic all the time and completely fake. He shows no genuine emotion or connection in his performances. He should go back to theatre, he does well there. I hope Kris brings the upset tonight.
That song was god-awful. They should only make the winner sing it on the second night (tonight). Hate that they have to sing the same song when it doesn’t suit everyone’s voice. Choose something else or let the voters choose something for each contestant to sing on the final competition night.
Funny - my 10 year-old niece, watching Kara, said, “She has a mean mouth.”
Gail - are they going to repeat the premier of Glee this week at all?
I am an older retired man who happens to love American Idol. I don’t like Rock music, I am more easy listeniing but I must say that Adam deserves to win. Kris is a singer where Adam is an entertainer. I can see Adam having a Las Vegas Show of his own but not the same for Kris. Danny was really my favorite from the beginning.
