Jon & Kate plus too much information
I’ve watched “Jon & Kate Plus 8″ so long, I feel like the sextuplets’ doting, out-of-town aunt. They were little babies in cribs when I discovered the show, before Kate got her gratis tummy tuck and Jon scored free hair plugs and they all moved into a mansion in the country. And long before the tabloids accused Jon of having an affair, and Kate of having one too, and TLC decided to promote the new season by showing the two sitting at opposite ends of a “love”seat, body language signaling separation.
Instead, they talked separately. Kate is clearly furious; Jon defensive. He’s burned out on the limelight. She’s traveling too much, promoting her new book. Despite the Gosselins’ anger at the tabloid media, expressed in Sunday night’s season premiere, sympathy has to be tempered by the knowledge that they invited the cameras into their house and courted publicity for profit. Too much exposure is what they say is too much. “We originally did the show to document our kids’ lives,” Jon said. “It’s become a business.”
For me, the point isn’t who did what here, or who’s right, or whether Kate is a witch and Jon is a slacker. The point is what I’ve discovered about myself: I don’t want actual reality to intrude on my “reality” shows, especially one that’s about cute kids getting potty trained and having birthday parties. Let me know when the Gosselins work things out, or at least convince TMZ they have, and I might watch their show again.
Oh, and if they split up the kids? Dibs on Aaden.

I guess “actual reality” means “reality edited so that it amuses or entertains me.”
Too much “actual reality” . . . because you SAY it’s too much? Because YOU say it’s too much? Sounds kinda like Jon & Kate and their publicity complaints.
Precisely.
Why are people on reality shows so surprised when they find out that their lives aren’t private any more? Isn’t that what they signed up for? Except I bet they like the money they made in the process. Don’t complain about the process when the process is what made you rich. THAT is what you signed up for, damn the consequences.
Terribly stupid and boring show to begin with. My girlfriend & daughter love it, but I can’t sit through 2 minutes without puking in my mouth. I hope Jon kills Kate & then himself & the kids are sent to live with the grandparents that have apparently been shunned. That would make for an exciting ending to the dumbest show ever aired!
Is this the midget show? I can’t keep these family shows straight. Personally I’d rather watch “All in the Family” reruns, if we have to watch crazy nut-job families bitch at each other.
I just wish that everyone would just stop with the carping about these people. Regardless of whether they “asked for it” by doing a reality show doesn’t mean that people should pass judgement on them. It doesn’t mean that the photographers and reporters shoudl be allowed to stalk these people either.
It just irks me that people forget that they are not anywhere near perfect but yet can make proclamations about people they don’t even know. This story will go away when people decide to grow up and mind their business.
It’s been awhile since an entertainment story has prompted so much vile nastiness. I agree Kate is high-maintenance, not very nice sometimes but honestly people if you had 8 children under the age of 10 wouldn’t you be a just a little crazy? I know I would probably be even more surly than she is.
If you were given the opportunity to do a reality series to make loads of money to take care of those 8 kids wouldn’t you do it? I absolutely would. I had 3 kids and it has nearly bankrupted me putting them through college. Anyone who says they wouldn’t do what Jon and Kate have done by being on TLC is lying to themselves and everyone else.
So think before you make comments like the ones I have seen all over the internet. Remember what our mothers’ told us, if you can’t say something nice just don’t say anything at all.
Wow, Leslee- I completely agree with you. I admire Kate, regardless of what all is going on. She is doing everything she can for those kids and they are good kids. Look at Maddie and Cara helping their Mom out last week with the big party. I was impressed.
I have been a fan since the beginning and I am still a fan. If they choose to no longer do the show then that is their decision and they should not be criticized with whatever they choose. If you don’t agree with them having a reality show, don’t watch it.
Pam and Leslee, I couldn’t disagree more. This couple is exploiting these poor children for money and notoriety. The kids are not allowed to live a normal life; they are videoed year-round, on the potty, in tears, knowing every event in their lives from birthday parties to vacations is staged for the sake of ratings. Several reports have indicated that the children have begged to be left alone, free of intrusive cameras. These are real human beings. They did not sign up for this. Making money by exploiting your children is not “taking care of the kids.” It’s one thing to make a reality show featuring infants or to write a book. But this is disgraceful. And so are those voyeurs who watch it.
