Surprise ‘Dancing With the Stars’ win shouldn’t be a surprise

*spoilers*

She wasn’t the favorite, but Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson won “Dancing With the Stars” over actor Gilles Marini and “Bachelor” veteran Melissa Rycroft — both, arguably, better dancers. Many thought the finish would be Melissa (winner), Gilles (second) and Shawn (third), or Gilles first and Melissa second.

But Shawn’s victory really shouldn’t be a surprise. She’s adorable, and “DWTS” voters proved how much they like adorable by keeping rodeo rider Ty around so long. But more importantly, she clearly had to work at ballroom dancing. She struggled and learned and worked hard — and she improved. The scores from the judges (including Melissa’s comparatively low marks in the Monday performances) were equal enough for the viewer votes to push Shawn over the top.

By the way, anyone who checked the results in my “Dancing With the Stars” poll wouldn’t have been shocked by Shawn’s win. She finished in second place but just two points behind Gilles, with Melissa far behind in third.

This win truly saddens me…Sean is cute, nice, and sweet…and both she and Ty were and are so robotic, that it was often unpleasant to watch them continue. Gymnastics with stiffness wasn’t dancing, and awkward monotone personalities wasn’t dancing with TY or Sean, either… They both were lacking in identifiable personality and sincerity. Again this is just sad!! ….BUT NEITHER SHOULD HAVE RALLIED, and certainly then, Sean should not have WON.

I am done watching this ridiculous popularity contest!!! Gilles and Melissa, BOTH, had more dancing talent and charissma, and were clearly the best dancers and celebrities with some personality!!! DONE, and JUST PLAIN SAD!!!…

This is the most disappointing finish since I’ve watched the show, and I’ve been with it since Season 2. Gilles/Cheryl and Melissa/Tony were much more polished, and had more chemistry. Shawn was nothing more than a gymnast trying to throw in a little dancing and her personality is zippo. And what was the garbage about their freestyle not having gymnastics in it? That’s all it was was backflips and splits!

NO WAY she should have won–she should have been 3rd.

And why did the judges give everybody 10’s even though they criticized Gilles/Cheryl and Melissa/Tony but couldn’t praise Shawn/Marc enough?

It’s just like AI–the judges influence the votes by their comments. Too bad.

AND………..both Melissa and Gilles had injuries and still danced great! I think Gilles was headed for shoulder surgery right after the show ended wasn’t he?

I totally agree with the various comments about how robotic, lacking in spirit and gracefulmess Shawn is. Ballroom dancing is not gymnastics. It’s just plain ridiculous that Shawn won over Gilles.

I’m glad Shawn won.

Yes, I think Gilles is a technically better dancer, but I really can’t stand Cheryl Burke, so it’s more a “glad she lost” than “glad Shawn won” sort of thing.

Schadenfreud, or whatever.

I’d have been happy with Melissa or Shawn.
