Ty wins ‘Dancing With the Stars’?

Go home this week? Nope; I’m not picking the cowboy (again) to exit “DWTS.” In fact, my money’s now on him to win it all. Sure, Gilles got a perfect 60 (six 10s in two dances). But Ty got that adorable hometown story with pictures of him in his little baby hat and little baby chaps. (Awww!) Sure, Shawn and Melissa were nearly perfect, but Ty gave his dances a good try. “Great, great effort,” Bruno managed after his samba (scored at two generous 8’s and a 7). Wonder where he’ll put the mirror-ball trophy?
Wow. Will America get it THAT wrong? I hope not. If Ty wins, that would be like Jerry Springer winning or Cloris Leachman (okay, Ty’s not THAT bad, but still). After all, it is a DANCE contest.
Fortunately there’s still a big segment of the voting fans who are pulling for this guy. This guy is a feel good story with a great attitude. I really didn’t like him after week 1, but he’s really grown on me since. Then again, I find myself pulling for the everyman no matter what kind of dancer they are. Ty is just a great story of what you can do when you put your mind to something.
Well if Joan Rivers (who resembles Howard The Duck more and more every day) can win Celebrity Apprentice after quitting 2 weeks earlier (after a racist, sexist rant - wait that also sounds like Trump, doesn’t it?), then Ty can certainly win DWTS.
I think the judges scored Ty so extremely low that he will not be able to pull through to the finals, and that’s a shame. I know, I know. He’s not the best dancer. But Marty, this is not strictly a dance contest any more than “So You Think You Can Dance” is strictly a dance contest. If it were, then the audience would have no vote. But we DO have a vote, and that makes it about more than just the technicalities of the dance.
I agree with you, Woody, in that Ty grows on you. I think his humility, and his spot-on sense of humor (mostly aimed at himself!) and his intense focus/drive/determination to do better each week has been the story of the season.
If he doesn’t win, I’d love to see Melissa get it.
Unfortunately, I think the judges have made it clear they want Cheryl and her fake boobs (which she is repeatedly shoving into the camera in her Edyta-inspired costumes this season) to take the mirror ball again this year. If that’s how it turns out, my money says Cheryl comes back with Angelina lips next season.
I liked Ty from the start. Its his partner, Chelsie, who had to grow on me. At first, she seemed very rude to me- she didn’t have anything nice to say about Ty and seemed to have a sense of entitlement- I thought we had a young Cheryl on our hands.. Now I like Chelsie more each show.
I totally agree with CivilDiscourse.. I really think Ty will get booted tonight after the low judges scores. Who else would go? THe baby stories were touching all around.. I want sweet little Shawn to win! She won my heart in Beijing!
I like Ty, too, but I have never voted for him. He is getting better, but he is still really stiff and uncomfortable. And I can’t believe Lil Kim got sent home before him!
I have a hard time picking a favorite between Gilles, Melissa and Shawn. I have been spreading my votes, mostly favoring Gilles and Melissa (and Lil Kim when she was still on!), but last night I gave more to Gilles and Shawn. We’ll see what happens tonight, but I hope that Ty is the one to go.
My money is still on Gille and Cheryl. I know that Ty is amazingly hanging in there but I think that Gille and Melissa are championship material. Time will tell but I think Ty is going tonite.
