7 shows that should be on your radar this week (June 29-July 5)
Not much new on TV in this holiday week, but here are seven shows you might find interesting. Stay tuned to the end of this post for a look at some July 4 cable marathons.
‘American Idol,’ 7 p.m. Monday on Fox
In memory of Michael Jackson, last season’s Top 13 finalists perform his songs. Revisit Adam Lambert on “Black or White,” Kris Allen on “Remember the Time” and Anoop Desai on “Beat It.”
‘Dance Your Ass Off,’ 9 p.m. Monday on Oxygen
Plus-size contestants who are light on their feet dance to lose pounds in a new series with Marisa Jaret Winokur (”Dancing with the Stars”) as host.
‘Nova scienceNOW,’ 9 p.m. Tuesday on PBS
Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson returns for a new season, beginning with a look (a listen, really) at how Auto-Tune vocal software helps keep performers on pitch.
‘American Masters: Garrison Keillor,” 7 p.m. Wednesday on PBS
”The Man on the Radio in the Red Shoes” profiles the creator of “A Prairie Home Companion,” following him to a rhubarb festival and showing him at work behind the scenes on the show.
‘Clean House: The Messiest Home in the Country,’ 8 p.m. Wednesday on Style
A retired police detective in Ohio set records for the amount of junk hauled out of her house, and also for her extremely reaction to the results. Let’s just say she wasn’t happy.
‘Monsters Inside Me,’ 9 p.m. Wednesday on Animal Planet
“Some of the most horrifying creatures on the planet are the ones that are too small to see!” Well, that’s a comforting intro to a new series that promises to show what happens when humans fall prey to parasites.
‘Ruby,’ 7 p.m. Sunday on Style
Ruby Gettinger’s weight-loss journey continues in Season 2, which opens with a death in the family.
‘Masterpiece Mystery: Miss Marple,’ 8 p.m. Sunday on PBS.
Julia McKenzie makes her debut as Agatha Christie’s sleuth in ”A Pocket Full of Rye,” the first of four Marple yarns praised in Britain as staying unusually faithful to the Christie books.

I would like to vouch (with my history/nerdy self) that both The Revolution and The Presidents are both great and wonderfully produced. I have both series on DVDs but still have it on each time it comes on the History channel.
Now, if we could just get a Life after People marathon.
