‘The Unit,’ ‘5th Grader’ on MyNetworkTV this fall
Has MyNetworkTV (WRBU, Channel 46) picked up “The Unit”? No, and yes. Fans of the drama, canceled by CBS, have taken hope from promos on WRBU (Channel 7 on Charter), but the episodes of “The Unit” that will air Wednesday nights this fall aren’t new ones; they are repeats from CBS.
Along with back-to-back “Unit” repeats this fall, MyNetworkTV will air the new syndicated “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” (also on KTVI, Channel 2) and the syndicated version of “Deal or No Deal.” Two episodes of each will create a “game night” on Tuesdays.
MyNetworkTV, owned by NewsCorp, was created in 2006 to provide prime-time programming to stations left without a network after the WB and UPN merged to form the CW. The first season featured “telenovelas,” limited-run soap operas, from 7-9 p.m. That strategy failed, and at this point MyNetworkTV amounts to a package of syndicated shows, including “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” repeats on Mondays, movies on Thursdays and “WWE Friday Night SmackDown” on Fridays.

It is hard to believe that the merger of UPN & WB has left us with a worse CW. There isn’t enough quality programming leftover for WRBU. It might as well be channel 446 as much as I watch it. It’s not MY anything.
