7 shows that should be on your radar this week (Sept. 8-13)

The calendar says summer isn’t quite over, but it’s clear that fall has arrived. Leaves were changing along I-64 as I came home from a long weekend in Louisville; I’ve switched to my new fall purse; and the season’s first premieres and season premieres arrive this week on the CW and Fox.

Miss my Big Fall TV Preview in Sunday’s paper? Here it is, along with a full list of premiere and season premiere dates for network shows.

Now, for this week. I’m starting with Tuesday because Monday was a holiday, but there’s so much new that you’re actually getting MORE than seven shows — at no extra charge.

‘Melrose Place,’ premiere, 9 tonight on the CW. Very busy, with lots of young, glossy characters living turbulent lives, the CW’s “Melrose” remake of the 1990s soap also features a couple of faces from the past, including Laura Leighton as Sydney, now the apartment building’s landlady. I’m not enthusiastic, but I’ll be interested to hear what people who were big fans of the original “MP” have to say about the new one. Also tonight, ‘90210′ begins its second season on the CW (8 p.m.)

‘Sons of Anarchy,’ 9 tonight (Tuesday) on FX. In Season 2, the motorcycle club takes on white supremacists led by Adam Arkin. Katey Sagal, Ron Perlman and Charlie Hunnam star.

‘Glee,’ 8 p.m. Wednesday on Fox. You know how I feel about this show. Love. It. In this episode, the second after the pilot, the show choir steps up its game for its first public performance for the school. The “Glee” premiere follows the season opener of “So You Think You Can Dance” (7 p.m. Wednesday).

‘Families Stand Together: Feeling Secure in Tough Times,’ 7 p.m. Wednesday on PBS. Tough economic times confront a Muppet family (and several real families) in a special intended to help parents and kids cope. Al Roker, Deborah Roberts (Roker’s wife) and Elmo are hosts. “Your Life, Your Money,” a financial advice show for young working people with Donald Faison (”Scrubs”) as host, follows at 8 p.m.

‘America’s Next Top Model,’ 8 p.m. Wednesday on the CW. This is the short season, but only in the sense that all the models are 5 feet 7 inches or shorter. And in fact the season premiere lasts two hours.

‘The Vampire Diaries,’ 8 p.m. Thursday on the CW. A young woman’s new crush is a vampire in a new drama that bored both me and a vampire-loving teen. Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley star, with Ian Somerhalder (Boone on “Lost”) as the hero’s bad-vampire brother. Also Thursday, “Supernatural” begins its new season (9 p.m. Thursday on the CW).

‘Citizen Jane,’ 8 p.m. Saturday on Hallmark. Ally Sheedy is determined to prove that her aunt’s boyfriend (Sean Patrick Flanery) killed her in a new movie based on a true story. Meat Loaf plays a detective.

‘Robin Hood,’ 8 p.m. Saturday on BBC America. The third and final season of this juicy new spin on the legend begins with Robin (Jonas Armstrong) “in a downward spiral fueled by anger and grief.” For Robin, mourning means seeking revenge, but a mysterious friar named Tuck (David Harewood) arrives just in time.

America’s Next Top Airhead should only be on your radar if you’re planning on using ICBM’s on it.

These lame CW dramas only make us lament the concluding season of True Blood on HBO. Sons of Anarchy stands out on this radar. All the good series are on basic and premium cable. The major networks have sadly lost their way.
