7 shows that should be on your radar this week (Oct. 26-Nov. 1)

Reruns already? Some viewers were taken aback last week to find their favorite shows airing repeat episodes. But this time of year, reruns are actually as typical as falling leaves. With November sweeps approaching (they begin Thursday) and baseball’s postseason heading toward the World Series (it starts Wednesday), the broadcast networks often sneak in a few repeats, saving up new episodes to stretch out the season longer.

The approach of November sweeps can also mean schedule-juggling, and so far Fox has made one big move, pulling its entire Friday night lineup (”Brothers,” “Til Death” and “Dollhouse”) off the schedule — no, not a good sign — in favor of repeats of more popular shows.

All that’s a long way of getting around to warning you that it’s not a great week in TV. But as a bonus, stick around to the end of this lackluster list for some Halloween highlights.

‘It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,’ 7 p.m. Tuesday on ABC
You’ve already seen it. (Technically, you could have seen it 43 times). But this “Peanuts” classic, which has aired on TV every year since its debut on 1966, is as sweet as a treat-size candy bar — and as nutty, too. This airing is followed by a bonus Charlie Brown cartoon; ” Great Pumpkin” gets a solo repeat on Wednesday.

‘BET Hip-Hop Awards,’ 7 p.m. Tuesday on BET
Comic Mike Epps is host of the fourth annual awards. “Monica: Still Standing,” a new reality series featuring singer Monica, follows at 9 p.m.

The World Series, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on Fox
The world champion Philadelphia Phillies return to the World Series, taking on … well, as I write this on Sunday night, we still don’t know whether the series will start in Anaheim or New York. I’d mentally handed the victory to the Yankees, but now the pesky Angels (squint, and can’t you imagine they’re the Cardinals in those red-on-white uniforms?) seem to be fighting back. the Yankees at Yankee Stadium in Game 1. Too bad, Angels.

‘Monsters Vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins From Outer Space,’ 7 p.m. Wednesday on NBC
Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogen and Hugh Laurie voice a new animated special, spun off from the movie, that finds the Monsters working with government to investigate mutant aliens posing as jack-o-lanterns. The special is repeated at 7:30.

‘Botany of Desire,’ 8 p.m. Wednesday on PBS
Marijuana evolved to fulfill our desire for intoxication, we learn in this documentary narrated by Frances McDormand, which also looked at the needs met by the evolution of the apple, the tulip and the potato.

‘The League,’ 9:30 p.m. Thursday on FX
Five 30-something guy friends obsess over their fantasy football league in a partly improvised new comedy paired with “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” I found “The League” more annoying than funny, but if you’re in its demographic — e.g. a 30-something guy obsessed with fantasy football — maybe it will score with you.

‘V’ (1983), 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and 10 p.m.-2:30 a.m. Sunday on Syfy
As ABC prepares for the Nov. 3 launch of its remake of “V,” Syfy offers a chance to revisit the 1983 original.

‘Place of Execution,’ 8 p.m. Sunday on PBS
A TV reporter (Juliet Stevenson) digs up long-buried secrets when she investigates the disappearance of a 13-year-old girl in 1963 in a two-part drama (concluding next Sunday) with Greg Wise.

HALLOWEEN SATURDAY SCARES

“Ghost Hunters” marathon, beginning at 8 a.m. on Syfy
“Addams Family” marathon, beginning at 2 p.m. on WGN
“Night of the Living Dead” (1968), 5 p.m. on AMC.
“Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” (1941), 7 p.m. on TCM, followed by “Murders in the Zoo” (1933) at 9 p.m., “The Body Snatcher” (1945) at 10:15 and ‘Circus of Horrors” (1960) at 11:45.
“The Bat,” 1959, followed by “The Vampire Bat,” 1933, beginning just after midnight on KETC (Channel 9)
“Ghost Rider,” 7 p.m. on FX
“Scream 3″ (7:30 p.m.) and “Halloween: Resurrection” (10 p.m.) on MTV
“The Amityville Horror” (2005), midnight on Oxygen.

One comment

I saw that HIMYM is not only a re-run, but a re-run from previous seasons. (Meaning its already aired at least three times already)
