KSDK bumps NBC Thursday shows for paid programming
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Remember “must-see TV”? Tonight, it’s “can’t-see TV.” KSDK (Channel 5) — in just the second full week of the new season — has opted to preempt NBC’s Thursday edition of “Saturday Night Live” (7 p.m.) and Amy Poehler’s “Parks and Recreation” (7:30 p.m.) for paid programming. The station has scheduled repeats in the wee hours Monday, but hey, if you feel like protesting these antics, why watch NBC shows on KSDK at all? They stream free on NBC.com, Hulu and Fancast.

I hear that Comcast is trying to buy NBC. Deciding to show paid programming instead of the network programs sounds like something Comcast would do.
Oh No…anything but Saturday Night Live….geez…that show is sooooo relevant these days….so sad
It all depends on what the programming is. Is the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon considered “paid programing”? Or the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon? If it’s just going to be an hour of Shamwow/Slapchop commercials then yeah, that’s idiotic.
In her chat today, Gail said the shows were “Moms Like Me” and “Metromix” infomercials.
It’s probably a good move. Parks and Recreations is a major BOMB, and won’t make it to another season.
Comcast buying NBC would have nothing to do with Channel 5 not showing NBC programming. NBC is still showing those awful shows, Channel 5 simply isn’t, much like they mercifully did for that awful “celebrity” reality show
infomercials? wow, have they just given up broadcasting in the face of the internet?
Thank You Charter!! You are there when I need you!
How stupid! NBC should begin withholding primetime programming from KSDK. KSDK has really become a joke in the last couple of years. They screw up Saturday Night Live almost every week because their news has to go to 10:35PM. Because of this, it appears they record the show and show it 5 minutes later than it occurs. Invariably they get it wrong, cutting off portions of the show in the process. You can complain at NBC.com. Click on “Contact Us”. About midway down the page is a drop down menu. Select “Other” and you can email a complaint.
Channel 5 has been a trainwreck for several years now. Ms. Beall has gutted the sales force, as well as on air talent, leaving morale in the gutter. Weekend weather guy is incapable of putting together two coherent sentences. Sure, times are tough for all in the business, but when was the last time ch. 4 or ch. 30 preempted prime time network shows for infomercials? I guess since NBC swallowed its pride and admitted defeat, giving over 5 hours of prime time to Leno, ch. 5 figures it’s every station for itself. And to think it used to be the no. 1 NBC affiliate in the country.
