‘Most influential man of 2009′ is fictional, lives in 1963
AMC is boasting today about an AskMen.com poll on “The Most Influential Man of 2009″ that was won by Don Draper, the hero of “Mad Men.” In the poll, which asked users of the website to vote on “the men who most embodied the way men want to live today,” Draper beat out sprinter Usain Bolt; President Barack Obama came in third. Says AMC:
Calls to Don Draper’s office were not immediately returned, possibly due to the fact that he is a fictional character who is supposed to exist in the 1960s. However, “Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner did offer comment on Draper’s win: “It’s interesting how drinking, smoking and carousing wins the race today, no offense to President Obama and Mr. Bolt.”
The poll, using a list of “men from around the world and from a variety of industries including entertainment, politics, technology, and sports,” drew 500,000 votes. The Top 10 are:
1. Don Draper
2. Usain Bolt
3. Barack Obama
4. Mark Zuckerberg
5. Simon Cowell
6. Michael Jackson
7. Steve Jobs
8. Roger Federer
9. Peyton Manning
10. Dana White

LOL. Our best role model isnt even real. Well, that kind of makes sense considering who we have to choose from in the “real” world.
Michael Jackson? Seriously? I don’t know about you, but I want to be the exact OPPOSITE of a mentally unstable, identity confused pedophile.
Michael Jackson? Hope this poll was taken before he died–if not it doesn’t speak well for our men.
Depressinly sad if that’s the top ten they came up with in this poll….
Oh, then again I just re-read what the poll really asked “the men who most embodied the way men want to live today”– and I guess this answers the true question…
speaks a lot about today’s society’s way of thinking now and days…
I can think of a lot better men that should be on that list, and hell I am a woman speaking here.
