Unimpressive showing for St. Louis in Mid-America Emmys
KTVI won the station excellence award and KSDK’s Mike Bush and Frank Cusumano won as news and sports anchors at Saturday night’s Mid-America Emmys. But St. Louis stations overall didn’t make a very impressive showing, with the award for news excellence going to KMBC in Kansas City, which also won for big-market evening newscast.
This full list of winners went up on STLtoday.com late Saturday night and was in the Sunday print edition in abbreviated form. But I know how hard it can be to find a specific article on the website, so I’m reposting it here.
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
Sunday, Oct. 04 2009
Harold “Hal” Protter, a longtime St. Louis television station executive, on
Saturday received the 2009 President’s Award from the Mid-America chapter of
the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Protter was general manager of KPLR-TV for many years and is a vice president
of CW Television, a national television network. The chapter honored him for
his years of service to the industry and for his advocacy of digital and
high-definition television, a chapter spokesman said.
The chapter honored five 25-year veterans in the television industry in its
area. They are Sharon Stevens of KSDK-TV, Tom O’Neal of KTVI-TV, both of St.
Louis; Dan Henry Bowser of WDAF-TV in Kansas City; Randy Dixon of KATV-TV of
Little Rock, Ark, and Michael Murray of the University of Missouri St. Louis.
The chapter gave out regional Emmy awards in 76 categories. The event was in
the Majestic Ballroom of the Renaissance Hotel.

Who cares. Mooooo
We’re thrilled at Dance St. Louis that our campaign about dance as “The Most Beautiful Sport in the World” was a winner! Our thanks go to Sarah Thompson, Boyd Pickup and HEC for their work on the creative, and to athletes Rick Ankiel, Eric Johnson, Chris Draft and Jamal Mayers for their time and talent.
It’s amazing to me that KSDK, as much as it sucks, got any award other than for Frank Cusumano. And as for Frank’s award, maybe KSDK should get a clue and jettison the robotic Rene Knott and give Frank the Sports Director job that he was cheated out of when KSDK went to out-of-town “talent” for the job. KSDK continues it’s downward spiral by replacing prime time network shows with Infomercials. They lost me when they preempted network golf coverage (mostly women’s golf) for the Cardinals. Strike two was shoving Deanne Lane out the door. They are second rate.
I don’t understand how Mike Bush can win an Emmy,in my opinion he is the worst anchor in the St. Louis media!
Hey, has anybody else besides me seen the KSdecay help-wanted ads for on-air talent as well as sales people??????
What the hell is up with that?
They just FIRED all the good people there…. so now we get Suzy High Schooler to fill the voids??
Congrats to former St. Louisan Bryan Busby for winning the Weather Emmy. Channel 2 should have kept him in 1988.
Why do we need a Mid-America Emmys? For more congratulatory pats on the back for these people? Aren’t their heads BIG enough already?
Wow…way too many categories. Kind of diminishes it.
