NBC pulls ‘Kings’ from schedule

Just as “Kings” fans were realizing NBC had moved it to Saturday from Sunday, the network has pulled the limited-run series altogether. As of this week (April 25), repeats of “Law & Order: SVU,” “Southland” and “Law & Order” will fill the Saturday lineup. Seven episodes of “Kings” remain and will apparently be burned off over the summer. “Kings” didn’t hold my interest — but how bad must ratings have been to get it yanked off Saturdays, where numbers don’t much matter? Well, in its first Saturday outing, it managed only an 0.6 rating, which is as bad as it sounds.

I guess I was one of the three people that followed Kings to Saturday.

I’m a little surprised that a modern-day allegory drawn from Biblical sources didn’t get more viewership, given all of the conservative griping about the “cesspool” that they say television has become. I suppose Hollywood really is damned if they do, and damned if they don’t.

I bet a lot of things will eventually be pulled from NBC over the next few months to make room for the talk show guy with the lengthy chin this fall!

Sorry to hear this - I liked this show. Ian McShane is always great, and the story of King David could have provided fodder for great tv drama for several seasons.

Hopefully NBC will stick with Chuck and Life for another season. If those two shows fall victim to Leno and 45 versions of Law & Order, I’ll not have any reason to ever tune to NBC, aside from Conan & Andy taking over the Tonight Show.

this is kind of funny. i have a friend who was so pumped for kings when it was being advertised, he kept chiding me for not being as excited about it as he was. this is a guy who watches almost everything on TV. he was all fired up for “kings” telling me how awesome it was going to be. i asked him a week ago if he still watched it, he said he gave up after the first episode. hah, i guess it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be? however he still swears that i should be watching southland because it’s amazing…. i probably won’t get into it…

I liked Kings. It was something different and not just another cop or lawyer show.

I liked this show. The acting was great and the story was good. I agree that anything that is not a CSI, Law & Order or other cop show just can’t make it. I also liked Jerico, Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money, all canceled. It’s like the commercial, they are turning our brains into mush and we can’t even appreciate something fresh and unique. It takes too much thought or something.

I watched Kings as well, and it’s a good looking show, especially in HD. The story lines, while vanilla, were enough to keep my interest.

But its true about NBC…so many law and orders, Jay Leno taking FIVE time slots in a week make it hard for new dramas to catch on.

Life is one of my favorite shows on…but I have a feeling it’ll fall victim to Leno.

So, I guess this means that that only show on NBC I ever watch now is The Office.

Adios NBC!

KINGS: GREAT SHOW, as was DEADWOOD. How will / can some of us Libertarians see great stuff?

It wouldn’t be the first time a network bumped around a show until nobody could find it and then pulled it because nobody watched it. What I don’t get is why they willingly piss away all the money they spent making it. I watch maybe 4 tv shows a week and this was one of them. Soon my TV will only be used by my kids for video games.

I don’t watch much TV. But I liked this show.

Poof, it disapears from it’s Sunday time slot, then poof it doesn’t show up on Saturday either.

And then the network wonders why it has low ratings?

The least they could do is put the rest of the epsiodes on line.
