KMOV operating at reduced power
If you got KMOV (Channel 4) by antenna yesterday but can’t get it today — assuming you’re on track with the digital conversion and have a box or newer TV — the problem is likely that the station is operating at reduced power. Once the analog signal was turned off at 12:01 a.m., work started on taking down the old analog transmitter. During the process, the digital transmitter has to run on lower power to keep from electrocuting a worker. Power should go back up tonight, but then go down again for several periods until all the work is completed on July 1. (Bear in mind that I’m not an engineer as I oversimplify.) This apparently has to do with the fact that KMOV changed frequencies during the switch, which also accounts for the fact that KNLC (which traded frequency) is temporarily occuping KMOV’s second digital channel. The station says the work had to take place in a sequence of events and couldn’t be finished earlier. Rescanning now won’t help, but when everything’s done, the station will put up a notice to rescan then.

Wow? I’m surprised that KMOV doesn’t have that notice running now during every program like they did for MONTHS before the digital switch. It’s so unlike them not to bombard us with excess information before any of it is even relevant.
How many years did they know about this–why are they the only ones not ready?
They had to show some extra infomercials to get the “beans”to get the transmitters updated. That tight wad Cohan must be crying over the “jack” they had to fork over to get the digital upgrades done!!
