TV critics honor Mad Men, Big Bang Theory, BSG
The 25th anniversary Television Critics Association Awards, handed out Saturday night, honored “Mad Men” as outstanding drama, “The Big Bang Theory” as outstanding comedy and “Battlestar Galactica” as program of the year. Jim Parsons of “Big Bang” got the award for individual achievement in comedy, with Bryan Cranston of “Breaking Bad” singled out for drama. Other awards: news and information, “The Alzheimer’s Project,” HBO; children’s programming, “Yo Gabba Gabba,” Nickelodeon; movies, miniseries and specials, ‘Grey Gardens,” HBO; heritage award, “ER”; career achievement, Betty White.
Pretty much all the winners were there. I sat behind a whole table of “Mad Men” folks, including Jon Hamm and creator Matthew Weiner. Parsons, Johnny Galecki and creator Chuck Lorre were there for “Big Bang,” which to me was a surprise winner over “30 Rock.” White got standing ovations before and after she talked about her 60 years in television.
Chelsea Handler was guest host, and although she split early, the winners hung out after the longish ceremony to have cocktails and dessert. All in all, a very nice evening, as the TCA Awards always are.

Good for Big Bang Theory! I’ve loved that show since it first came on. Very smartly written and likeable characters.
BSG was so much more than a sci-fi show. It was more about people with sci-fi as a backdrop.
These people got it right. The Grammy’s are a joke. 22 nominations for 30 Rock? That show is the worst! It’s not funny and no one watches it. Why is it even still on?
The Grammy’s do suck. Good thing 30 Rock is a TV show, not a music group. I’ve read that while 30 Rock tends to have lower ratings than some other prime time shows, it is more highly ranked with higher income households… annndd I’m guessing that you don’t belong to that demographic… I’m just broken up that the “More to Love” premier didn’t come out in time to qualify for these awards.
