7 shows that should be on your TV radar April 13-19
After last week’s rush of premieres, this week in TV is comparatively slow. But here are seven shows that, for better or worse, should be on your TV radar this week, April 13-19. If the middle of the week looks bleak, hang on till Saturday and Sunday for some real highlights:
‘American Experience: We Shall Remain’
9 p.m. Monday on PBS (Channel 9)
Five 90-minute documentaries, continuing the next four Mondays, explore American history from the point of view of the people who lived here before the Mayflower. Tonight, in the 1600s, the Wampanoags of New England fight back against the British after five decades of oppression. Benjamin Bratt is the narrator.
‘College Life’
9:30 p.m. Monday on MTV
“This is not reality,” MTV says of this new series. “This is real.” Freshmen at the University of Wisconsin at Madison document their own experience, minus producers, film crews and reshoots.
‘Deadliest Catch’
8 p.m. Tuesday on the Discovery Channel
Things look grim for the boats and their skippers as the wildly popular series about crab fishing off Alaska begins its fifth season.
‘The Cougar’
9 p.m. Wednesday on TV Land
So, when a 40-year woman dates a younger man, she’s a “cougar.” What’s a 40-year-old man called when he dates a younger man? Just wondering while pondering this reality-dating show from “Bachelor” creator Mike Fleiss in which a “sexy and accomplished mature woman” prowls for love amid a pack of younger men.
‘Grey Gardens’
7 p.m. Saturday on HBO
Jessica Lange is Edith Bouvier Beale and Drew Barrymore is her daughter, Edie, in a film version of the Broadway musical about eccentric relatives of Jacqueline Kennedy. The filmmaking Maysles brothers first told the women’s story in a 1975 documentary.
‘Sit Down, Shut Up’
7:30 p.m. Sunday on Fox (Channel 2)
Mitchell Hurwitz reunites some of his “Arrested Development” alumni, including Will Arnett and Jason Bateman, for an animated comedy about high school teachers. Look for my feature story about the show in the April 19 A&E section of the Post-Dispatch.
‘The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler’
8 p.m. Sunday on CBS (Channel 4)
Anna Paquin and Marcia Gay Harden star in a “Hallmark Hall of Fame” drama about a Polish social worker who saved thousands of Jewish children during the Holocaust.

days of some shows not listed above, 3 of 7; what up? where’s the editor when you need one:)! last one’s sunday, I think; and others?
Love Deadliest Catch - can’t wait to see the guys back in action on the Bering Sea. Go Sig and Edgar!
BTW, was surprised to see out of the corner of my eye in Wal-mart supercenter’s frozen food section a box of Capt’n Sig brand fish sticks! Apparently there is 6 or 7 items of their brand. Had to buy a box just to give it a try, not bad!
thank you; permission to remove my first post if want.
farmwife2-your dear Capt. Sig is no darling with the Alaskan fishing industry. The state is currently calling for an investigation of him. Seems he is endorsing a frozen crab leg product in 2 lb. boxes which is crab illegally harvested (poached is the word) by the Russians. The box carries his image and signature and a picture of the FV Northwestern
if you want to further help him out-this product is also, not surprisingly, sold at Wal Mart. You probably won’t hear about it on Deadliest Catch though.
I am going out to buy as much of Capt sig’s crab legs as I can. doesn’t appear as though we are short of alaskan king crab based on the show. what’s wrong with SAMS and Wal mart oh i see they aren’t union Haaaa now I am going to buy even more Go Sig!
The crab in question was poached, by Russians, that means illegally taken. The company is not in Alaska but Washington and the guy who runs it is under arrest in Russia for laundering money and exporting ILLEGAL crab products..so, by all means, support illegal export/importers..how does union/non-union enter into this at all? If you really watched the show you’d realize there has been a limit imposed on how much crab those guys can take now and the Russians have been accused of poaching the vast majority of what they export. The majority of what your TV stars are catching is exported as well which means we’re selling it overseas. We are importing what we eat here. Get it?
