Gross-out TV!

Have you noticed how many people on TV — on reality series but also scripted shows — throw up these days? Graphically, right on camera? And that’s mild compared to some of the stuff you’ll see. In an attempt to grab our attention, television is clearly trying to disgust us. I’d love to hear what’s grossed you out lately.

The “Of Love” shows on VH1 and MTV never fail in this department. Usually alcohol induced.
Biggest Loser likes to show this a lot too.
Not my favorite thing to watch…. However, i’d rather see someone losing their lunch than a snake on TV, those just give me the creeps!

“I’d love to hear what’s grossed you out lately.”

Political advertising.

OK, I had to take a pot shot.

Really, it doesn’t bother me much. It wasn’t reality TV that started this trend, it was Family Guy. Remember when Peter, Stewie, Chris and Brian took syrup of Ipecac? Whoever threw up the most got the last piece of cake. The resulting puke-a-palooza must have lasted two full minutes. I laughed my rear end off.

Yep, last week Jilian on The Biggest Loser was wishing for someone to throw up after working out. I think she said “I hope someone pukes this week.” They actually showed one of the guys throwing up in a field, although not a close up. Didn’t deter me too much from drinking a beer and eating some potato chips as I watched, though. It’s inspirational, but for some reason that’s the only show I eat during. Go figure!

I’m with Majigail on the snake thing. That’s 10 times worse.

SNL last week with the spicy hot dog sketch was gross. Of course, a lot of the reality TV shows have to have at least one episode where they make the contestants eat weird food that makes them puke. I suppose I’m the wrong demographic and that’s why I’m grossed out. I think scatological humor is juventile too, and yet……

Sorry, the word is “juvenile”.

The commercialwith the baby that “talks on the cell phone”, “buys stock”, and throws up. Whatever it is selling (I have no idea), I refuse to buy any of it.
