NBC cancels Christian Slater’s ‘My Own Worst Enemy’
That’s the story this morning from the Hollywood Reporter, which says “My Own Worst Enemy” will end its run with nine episodes. Nothing official from NBC, of course, but Michael Ausiello over at Entertainment Weekly puts both “Enemy” and “Lipstick Jungle” on the canceled list. NBC is really struggling this season, and poor “My Own Worst Enemy” just couldn’t build an audience; in fact, viewership fell to new lows for the most recent episode. Ironically, this is the fall series that I’ve heard the most positive buzz on. I thought it was smart, surprising and well-acted, but NBC — after promoting the show so much during the Olympics –waited so long to debut it that interest had waned. And the writing was on the wall for “Lipstick Jungle” (I’m not a fan) when NBC moved it to Friday, then picked up “Life” (which took over its Wednesday slot) for the full season.

Hadn’t had a chance to see “My Own Worst Enemy” yet, but I’ve got all the episodes taped. No reason to waste time watching them now. Looks like “Heroes” didn’t do much good as a lead-in with its less than spectacular ratings. After all that promotion and decent reviews, NBC does nothing to give “Enemy” a second chance yet they pick up “Knight Rider” for a full season. Go figure.
