Sunday night’s season premiere of “The Amazing Race” was one of the best episodes ever of this classic competition — am I right, cheese fans? The goal of the new season is more action, more local color and less poring over airline schedules, and that works for me. There are several pairs who are easy to root for this season (love the stuntmen brothers, the mom and deaf son, and father-and-son writers Mel and Mike White), plus several who will potentially be fun to hate.

In addition to a 70-story (that’s right, 70-story) bungee jump, the season premiere offered one of the most hilarious challenges in “Amazing Race” history, involving a slippery hill and 50-pound wheels of cheese. You have to see it to believe it, and here’s the good news: If you missed the premiere, ”The Amazing Race” is finally (finally!) available online. You’ll find it streamed at CBS.com.  ”Race” fans can also enjoy a new blog by host Phil “The Eyebrow” Keoghan at EW.com, which also offers very entertaining weekly recaps by Josh Wolk.

I thought it was a good first episode too. I wonder why they just didn’t let the cheese roll down first and then go stack them after. I guess it’s possible the cheese could have rolled past where they needed to go.

Funny, the teams you mentioned you liked, I called out would not have a chance to win…and I didn’t care for them either. Don’t know why. Maybe that will change. I think the cheerleaders are a strong team and the ones to beat.

I’m just happy that one of this season’s version of Jonathan and Victoria went home first. The cheese was hilarious, but the bungee jump in HD scared the carp out of me and my acrophobia!

I laughed so hard during the Cheese challenge, that was so funny! It was so cool that the deaf son and his Mom won first place already. I am rooting for Mike White (aka Ned Schneebly from School of Rock) and his Dad. Wouldn’t it have been fun to have Jack Black participating, too?

I am so glad that they will not spend as much time focusing on the airport drama. I got so tired of watching last season and having half of the show taken up by airport shenanigans. That’s what I hate about survivor, after the awesome challenges and competitions, you spend all this time just watching people scheme. I tune into the Amazing race because it is educational, interesting, and one of the more life-affirming reality shows on the air today. I’m glad they made this change.

But what was with the Cheese rolling thing, was that a mandatory task for everyone? Why wasn’t it a detour with another choice for a task?
