Ben Silverman out as head of NBC Entertainment
Here’s how I’ll always think of Ben Silverman: posing with all the stars at an NBC press party and getting in every picture. No more.
Silverman, whose time as co-chairman of NBC Entertainment was marked by a continuing ratings slide and the risky decision to give Jay Leno a prime-time hour, is leaving the network to work in a new venture “uniting advertisers and content creators.” Before being elevated at NBC, Silverman and his company, Reveille, were best known as leaders in product placement.
If you care who’s in charge of what at NBC, Marc Graboff becomes chairman (he was co-chairman, with Silverman) of NBC Entertainment. They’ll report to Jeff Gaspin, elevated to chairman of NBC Universal Television Entertainment Studios. (Hope you’re taking notes.) In addition to Graboff, NBC cable (USA, Bravo, Oxygen and Syfy) will report to Gaspin.
“Ben Silverman has many exciting things he wants to accomplish and we applaud him as he sets off on his new endeavors,” NBC boss of bosses Jeff Zucker said in a statement. “Ben brought us tremendous new thinking in this changing media age, and we’re grateful for that. Now, we look forward to working with him in his new venture.”
