Mountain lacks Christmas enthusiasm

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

From “The Soup” Blog:

Christmas has come and gone, but thanks to the magic of video, we can relive the warmth and happiness literally days into the future. Which brings us to Henrietta and Myrna and their scintillating take on “Go Tell It on the Mountain.” We may be going out on a limb here, but never has less enthusiasm been mustered in the name of Jesus.

Sure, the performance is lackluster, but what about that fancy cinematography?

The Associated Press reports:

A family friend says Eartha Kitt, a sultry singer, dancer and actress who rose from South Carolina cotton fields to become an international symbol of elegance and sensuality, has died. She was 81. Andrew Freedman says Kitt died Thursday of colon cancer and was recently treated at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York. Kitt, a self-proclaimed “sex kitten” famous for her catlike purr, was one of America’s most versatile performers, winning two Emmys and getting a third nomination. She also was nominated for two Tony Awards and a Grammy.

It’s Christmas in the Playhouse! A blast from the past

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

One of our favorite TV shows as a kid was “Pee-Wee’s Playhouse.” And we remember it was a really big deal when Pee-Wee got a primetime Christmas special in 1986.

There were all sorts of special guests: Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah, Annette Funicello, Frankie Avalon, Grace Jones, k.d. lang, Dinah Shore, Little Richard, Cher, the Del Rubio Triplets, Magic Johnson, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Joan Rivers and Charo. And let’s not forget the other actors who were “Playhouse” regulars: S. Epatha Merkerson, Laurence Fischburne and Phil Hartman.

In an unlikely pairing, Martha teaches Snoop how to peel potatoes and mash them with a machine, and Snoop teaches Martha about his “vocabulary” and cognac.
