So long to a broadcasting legend
As a kid, the local TV news folks were like family members to those of us who grew up in a town with only one local TV station.
So when we heard that anchorman Mike Shain was retiring after 36 years on the air at KFVS-TV in Cape Girardeau, we were saddened a bit. For the (doing math in our head) 25 years that we lived in Southeast Missouri, Mike was a consistent presence in our living room every evening.
The Southeast Missourian newspaper put together this piece of video from a longer interview.
The TV station has a lot of video tributes and such online that are worth a look, too. (If you’re a Mac user, you’ll have to jump through a lot of hoops to watch it.)
Congratulations on your much-deserved retirement, Mike. The “Heartland” will miss you.
