Will local blogger and marketing maven Reem Abeidoh be humiliated for the entire web to see, forced to put her hair into Princess Leia’s famous “do” from Star Wars: Episode IV?
Abeidoh works full-time as a social marketing content developer at Outrider. She also blogs regularly about social media here and co-hosts the Social Blend podcast here.
On a recent episode, she was forced to confess that she had never watched any of the Star Wars movies by her astounded co-hosts. Co-host Greg Davies issued the challenge: Pass a Star Wars quiz in an upcoming edition of the podcast, or display your locks Leia-style on Mixx.com, the Mixxing Bowl Forums and heaven-knows where else.
“To avoid public humiliation, I am studying up,” Abeidoh said in an IM conversation. “Watched Epsiodes IV and V so far. Watching VI (Thursday night).” Apparently, the prequels are off-limits.
In the podcast, one of the co-hosts nearly shouted in mock-horror, “You’ve never seen Star Wars and you call yourself a geek!” Abeidoh responded that, actually, she doesn’t call herself a geek.
Did she like the original trilogy? “I enjoyed them so much. I understand people’s fascination and even obsession with Star Wars. There are so many details in these movies that I am sure I will uncover as I watch them more and more.”
And her favorite episode? “Hmm very good question. I really loved Empire Strikes Back. However, I want an Ewok so bad.”
The quiz is tonight at 8:30 p.m.
And what do the boys on the podcast lose if Abeidoh wins? Co-host Joe Fowler will find his face superimposed on another famous Princess Leia pose — and posted for all the world to see.
Oh, and why is this worth writing about at all? Well, heck, it’s a story from Virtual St. Louis, isn’t it? And it’s Friday, let’s relax! And I’ve already told you what a big Star Wars fan I am.
