Web lights up with commentary on Archbishop Burke leaving St. Louis

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

burke.jpgAs you might imagine, there is no shortage of opinion out on web about the departure of Archbishop Raymond Burke from St. Louis. The Talk of the Day topic we posted on STLtoday had 33 comments within 90 minutes of posting it — and it’s still going strong.

And even if Twitter is being a pain in the neck today, subscribers’ comments are sneaking through. Readers found plenty to say (here’s a link to my Summize search on the topic of Burke — limited to the St. Louis area).

Most of the comments on Twitter were either announcements — or not favorable to Burke. Examples were along these lines:

mpsecondjournal: OMG I’m so excited Archbishop Burke is leaving St Louis.. happy dance in my chair!

tfooq: Burke is leaving!!!! I hope there are some sweet Burke-no-more parties in STL soon.

That wasn’t necessarily the view elsewhere online, where more conservative sites/blogs/forums expressed regret for St. Louis, but happiness for the Catholic Church as a wider body. One example is here:

“This is a great loss for St. Louis, but obviously good for the Archbishop and the Catholic Church as a whole. May God be with him in his new role. And, may St. Louis be bless with another great Archbishop.” (Posted on Christian Forums)

“I woke up this morning to some of the saddest news of the year in our Archdiocese; I received a text message and an email announcing the departure of Archbishop Raymond Leo Burke….expect some dissension from certain parts of the media.” (Posted on LifeIsAPrayer.com)

“On the more practical side, the return to the Vatican’s top tribunal of the first US cleric to hold a senior post within its ranks — the second consecutive instance of an archbishop of the onetime “Rome of the West” being called out of town to a cardinalatial post — removes the American bishop most affiliated with the so-called “Communion Wars” from the domestic fray in advance of another presidential election season.” (Posted on Whispers in the Loggia)

“It is certainly a bittersweet announcement for those in St. Louis and around the world who have rejoiced in the Archbishop’s stalwart defense of orthodoxy, his courage, his perseverance, and his wise and faithful pastoral care. He has been a shining example of how a Bishop should guide and govern.” (Posted on the Stella Borealis Catholic Roundtable)

“One big unanswered question: when Burke leaves, will he get to take with him the several souls he excommunicated in his brief tenure here, or will he be compelled to open the Mason jar on his nightstand and release them back into the wild?” (Posted on Waveflux)

I find it odd, that most of the people who seem to be dancing with glee at the great Archbishop Burke’s departure are the usuall femminst radical malcontents, gays, and various other sundry radical progressives in the Catholic Church, and the general population who know nothing about the great Archbishop.
As for the dime-a- dozen femminist/women priest groups who are delighted with Burke’s departure, don’t cheer yet. Burke taught and disiplined according to Catholic law and disipline and tradition. His successor will do the same. Hopefully the Pope won’t pick a wimp, but rather another “hard liner” like Burke.
As for the dissident women who want to play priest and who think that with the great Archbishop Burke leaving, their chance has come…. my suggestion is to get your crying towels out and commence weeping because it ain’t gonna happen. Not under Burke or anyone else. Not now or ever.

Congratulations to Archbiship Burke. While I am not his biggest fan, I respect both his integrity and his deep beliefs in Catholic tradition and dogma. He is an excellent choice to serve in his new capacity as head of the Catholic Supreme Court.

I am disturbed by the vindictive on the web… Lets look to the future. Love him or hate him, the past is the past and we need to focus on what traits, skills and style we need in our new Archbishop. Lets pray for a Bishop who is pastoral and caring.

I’m happy he’s leaving. The way I look at it a person in this man’s position should be less judgemental, and way more compassionate with people. He always gave me the impression that he thought he was better, holier than everyone else. I hope that the Pope will appoint someone who is more in tune with people, a teacher and example of the word of God. Mr Takemitsu, you don’t seem a very christian person yourself. Interesting that you would be the first post here and consider this man “great”. Your words are very unchristian toward women and gay people.

It is a glorious day in St. Louis. The man who caused more unrest in St. Louis catholicism is now gone. May the people in St. Stans church, the politicians that support stem cell research and former KMOV newscasters rest easy.

Let’s hope and pray the next ArchBishop of St. Louis is touched by reality and is not a Cult leader.

Thank you Jesus!

Yes, that’s so correct: Do your job of upholding canonical law and faithfulness to the magisterium and get decried by the softheaded as lacking compassion and as leading a cult. So goes the modern logic.

As InBev readies its hostile takeover of Anheuser-Busch and as American cuts yet another 30 flights that had served the area, St. Louis receives yet another blow as this first-rate Catholic leader is called away. But at least his departure is to the Vatican supreme court, where he can exert his formidable leadership over a much wider scope. It is obvious that B-16 is pleased with Burke’s work, and, consternation of those local Polish ex-Catholics now seeking that defrocked Zambian Moon-married archbishop as a leader notwithstanding, is rewarding him with a huge promotion. Good for him.

This is clearly the best news I’ve heard in a long time. This is not a loss for Saint Louis, but rather a wonderful opportunity for a better leader to take the Saint Louis Archdiocese two steps forward, instead of two steps back. Burke was a disappointment as a leader, and the damage he did to a once strong Catholic group was nothing short of remarkable.

It is my hope that the Pope assigns a strong and progressive leader to unite this divided Saint Louis flock. He has an uphill battle as the division in this Catholic Fellowship is as deep as it is wide.

So Burke is leaving St. Louis. Big Deal…

Perhaps, now that he’s about to occupy a court in the Ëternal City, he may just be able to find out who stole my wife’s wallet from her purse while she attended Mass in the Vatican.

Reminds me of the song from the Wizard of Oz: “Ding dong the witch is dead, the wicked witch is dead.”

St. Louis can consider itself lucky for the moment, until the next “gift from God” is visited upon them.

http://www.bishop-accountability.org/abusetracker for daily verifed coverage of Leveda, Burke, Egan, Mahony, Law, Rigali, McCarrick, George, Pell, Bertone, Sodano, Scola, Hummes, Maida, O’Malley, Keeler, Rivera and the rest of the serial CRIMINAL racketeering and pedophile enabling aid and abetters, costing laity in America at least $2.8 Billion Dollars thus far, with no correction, no end in site, child endangerment still widely pervasive, and certainly no punishment of these guilty curia, but rather promotion for these EVIL office holders.

http://www.amazon.com for over 90+ recently published, 100% accurate, books on the subject, from such experts as Roman Catholic Bishops Jeffery Robinsom and Thomas Gumbleton, as well as Dr. Leon Podles, Dr. Robert Grant, Richard sipe, Marci Hamilton, Jason Berry, David Yallop and Fr. Thomas Doyle, OP, to name only a few.

STOP DONATING ANY MONIES LAITY until each is removed, each is canonically censored, each is placed under life time house arrest, like pedophile founder of the Legion Of Christ Marciel, or alternatively, each is EXCOMMUNICATED.

No Curia Accountability? No Laity Monies!
