Enterprise Rent-A-Car said Thursday that it would not participate in a government bailout of the troubled car rental industry that had been reported by The Wall Street Journal.
"We're not in need of any money. We're not even participating in any program if it should go through," Enterprise Rent-A-Car spokesman Pat Farrell said.
The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that car rental companies were lobbying Congress to allow them to tap the Troubled Asset Relief Program to finance new auto purchases.
In the TARP reform bill passed in the House last week, legislators inserted language that gave the Treasury secretary authority to back loans to car-rental companies and other fleet buyers.
