And the duel continues.
One of the two competing outlet malls developments in Chesterfield announced this morning that it will begin construction next month and name dropped several stores that will be included in the proposed center.
Those retailers include Ann Taylor, Brooks Brothers, Elie Tahari, Jones New York, Hot Topic, Nine West, Asics, Tommy Hilfiger, Van Heusen, Naturalizer, Lane Bryant, Maidenform, Clarks Bostonian, Easy Spirit, Famous Footwear, Finish Line, Izod, Skechers and Yankee Candle.
Simon Property Group, who is spearheading this project along with Woodmont Outlets, said the center is more than 60 percent committed.
This development -- the St. Louis Premium Outlets -- has already announced that Saks Fifth Avenue's Off Fifth would be an anchor. This project, located along Highway 40 east of the Daniel Boone Bridge is expected to open in fall 2013. It has scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony for July 11.
The other project -- Taubman Prestige Outlets Chesterfield -- began site work on its lot across from Chesterfield Commons in April. And the company's chief executive told me last month that he doesn't have any doubt that he will win this outlet mall duel.
Both sides have said they expect that only one of these outlet malls will be built. But neither one has dropped out of the race yet.
Karen MacDonald, a Taubman spokeswoman, said they had originally hoped to have a groundbreaking ceremony in late June, but pushed it back a bit to July 25 to accommodate the busy schedules of some of the executives.
She said the project is still on target and the physical building construction will begin soon after the ceremony. She said the center's first group of retailers would also be announced at the ceremony.
"There's only going to be one outlet center that will be built and I believe that will be Taubman Prestige Outlets Chesterfield," she said.
