He strode onto the stage at Maryville University wearing blue jeans, a tucked-in and buttoned-down collared shirt and a dark jacket.

It was not casual Friday. It was early Tuesday morning. And most of the people watching him were dressed more formally -- in suits and ties or dresses.

"I am in jeans," Dave Peacock, Anheuser-Busch president, confirmed to the audience gathered today to hear him speak at the KMOX/Business Owners Speakers Series, held at Marysville University. (See earlier Lager Heads post about talk.)

And no, the jeans were not an oversight.

Lager Heads had been curious what Peacock would wear to the event -- because his clothes would speak volumes about how things were going down at One Busch Place.

If there were any remaining doubts about how the culture of InBev was meshing with the culture of Anheuser-Busch following their merger in 2008, Peacock's sartorial choices settled them.

The president of the old A-B would be in a suit. The president of the new A-B, the U.S. subsidiary of A-B InBev, would wear jeans.

A-B InBev has often celebrated a "culture of informality" that encourages jeans over suits, open offices over executive suites.

Peacock was still dressed nattily. And he said he and his executives will don a tie and jacket at times -- but that happens "very rarely."

As he gave an hour-long overview of A-B, Peacock also shed his jacket. However, he did not roll up his sleeves.
