It's been a down-and-up week for AT&T Mobility.
On Monday, Consumer Reports named it the worst cell-phone carrier in America, according to a survey of 58,000 of the non-profit magazine's online readers. Today, AT&T Mobility announced it has the fewest Better Business Bureau complaints of any of the nation's four biggest wireless carriers.
In the Consumer Reports survey, more than half of the respondents who used AT&T owned some version of the iPhone. They rated voice and data service -- both Web and e-mail -- lower than owners of smart phones on other carriers.
"Our survey suggests that an iPhone from Verizon Wireless, which is rumored, could indeed be good news for iPhone fans," said Paul Reynolds, Electronics Editor for Consumer Reports, in a prepared statement.
Despite its low showing in the consumer-satisfaction survey, Ma Bell has stellar grades with the BBB, fewer complaints filed with the watchdog group than its closest rivals and a lower complaint rate (the number of closed complaints per wireless provider).
Each BBB can grade a national company differently, but AT&T says it has an average grade of A-plus, which also is what the St. Louis BBB gives company.
