In March 2008, Missouri's then-Attorney General Jay Nixon sued National Dealers Warranty as part of "Operation Taken For a Ride," a legal crackdown on eight brokers of extended auto-service contracts. To settle the suit, the company paid $29,995 in restitution and penalties. In its agreement with the state, the company agreed to follow several consumer-protection rules.

On Jan. 9, authorities in British Columbia issued a cease-and-desist order against National Dealers Warranty and two related companies accused of selling service contracts in the province illegally.
